This is absolutely delicious. I made this after asking for some suggestions for picnic type recipes in 'request a recipe'. Very easy to put together and great flavours, I used chicken instead of turkey and a garlic salami. I had told my husband what we were meant to do with it once we got to our picnic destination, and he gave me this kinda 'oh yeah?' look..well anyway...we unpack the cooler overlooking Caroline Bay in Timaru, a few fellow picknickers around I might add..and Im thinking...hmmm..Im gonna get some weird looks if Im seen sitting on my lunch!..and no amount of persuasion would get dh to do it..so I grabbed a cloth...placed sandwich on the bench seat, covered it with a cloth and then quickly sat on it...WELL...the air escaped from the plastic wrap and these extremely LOUD noises erupted from said sandwich..and then all dh and I could do was burst out laughing..honestly it was hilarious! Putting aside the fun side of this recipe it really is very good..and I will be making it again and again.

I assembled this sandwich (using cheddar and provolone cheese) early last Saturday morning to take along on our monthly 4 wheeler outing. Many people attend this event, each bringing his or her own lunch, and we all gather in a central location to eat and socialize. When lunchtime arrived, I proudly produced this big sandwich from the cooler and set it on the picnic table. I then turned around to grab something else and when I turned back to the sandwich my son was beginning to unwrap it!!! I yelled, NO!!! NOT YET!!! IT'S NOT DONE!!! (I was a little moody) My son, my husband and many others just looked at me like I was outta my mind!!! After all - it LOOKED done! I then marched my self over to the table, grabbed the sandwich, set it on the bench and SAT on it, just as directed! You should have heard the gasps and seen the look on the faces around me! It was a hoot! I'm still laughing! Thank so much Julesong not only for a GREAT lunch, but for a great laugh!!

I made this sandwich to eat for lunch on the first day of our vacation. It was such fun to see my crazy BIL sit on the sandwich. We then enjoyed a delicious lunch! The sandwich is quite tasty...the flavors blend so nicely. This fit easily in our small cooler & was the perfect thing to take on a trip. I used sharp cheddar and provolone, substituting turkey ham for the turkey. This served four including two men who had two helpings with a small end left over. Thanks for this fun, flavorful, filling sandwich.

This is one fantastic sandwich! I made this for a picnic that I went on with some girlfriends to Eastbourne. Thought all that sea air would boost our appetites and this would come in handy! I was not wrong! Everyone loved it. I couldn't find a round loaf so used a long wide grande mange paysan. I didn't think the liquid on my artichokes was very flavourful, so I only added a little bit of it to loosen up the mayonnaise then I added some dry Italian Salad Dressing mix to give it some flavour. That did the trick! I used a mixture of havarti and mild cheddar cheeses and I added some thinly sliced ham along with the turkey and salami. This was one heavy sandwich, but it went over very well! Thanks so much for a great recipe!

Oh, this is good. I made it to take on the boat with us this weekend and we loved it. I used a loaf of round Hawaiian bread. Next time I think I will make it upside down though because the bottom of the bread was much smaller than the top (little messy). I used turkey, hard salami, swiss cheese and jalapeno cheese. Next time I think I will also add less artichoke juice. I used the 7 oz. jar and it was a bit too much liquid. This will be made often this summer. The possibilities are endless. (and the kids will love having to sit on it).

I made this sandwich last night for my husband's lunch today and he just called me and said he just finished "the best sandwich I ever made him". That is saying a lot since we have been married for 12 years. I have been making him various sandwiches over the last few months because he is in a classroom all day and has no refrigerator and no microwave. He said he discreetly sat on it before sitting down to eat with the guys and said he felt silly but knew he wouldn't have been able to wrap his mouth around it had he not sat on it. Not only did he absolutely love it, but he had several of his lunchmates ask if I had a sister or if I would adopt them. Thanks for making me look like a hero Julesong! I used a wheat french loaf, baby swiss for the cheese, and added a few pickle slices along with all ingredients as listed. I know this will be a lunchbox and picnic favorite because it keeps so well.

Very good, easy and amusing too! My kids were disgusted to see their father sit on this sandwich, but they want to sit on it next time! Thanks for the recipe!

Julesong, I thought this sandwich was fantastic, that despite feeling a bit foolish while I sat on it. (My husband asked if I expected him to eat that...). I roughly chopped the artichoke hearts and olives together with some peperoncini in the food processor, and used just 2 T of the artichoke heart liquid and 2 T of mayo (next time I'll use 4 T of mayo). It all tasted so good between slabs of the 1-lb loaf of focaccia that I baked yesterday. Thanks for this great recipe! Reminds me of the one I saw Martha Stewart make on her show a while back, although it's hard to imagine perfect Martha sitting on her sandwich.

This is definitely a five-star recipe. A little unusual, but very tasty! I used a rosemary & olive oil round loaf of french bread and saved the soft pieces for dipping oil. On the sandwich, I layered it with tomatoes, artichokes, onion, banana peppers, salami, turkey, and provolone. For the sauce, instead of using the artichoke liquid, I mixed a little Italian dressing in with the mayo. It was fabulous! Thanks for the recipe, Julesong! I will definitely be making this again.

I have made this three times & LOVE it! I use dijonnaise instead of the mayo & artichoke juice, & have also tried various combinations of meats, cheeses & vegies; btw roasted peppers are delicious, & I've also used shredded cooked chicken! The only issue we have is that because we are only two, there has been some waste as I haven't thought to freeze the sandwich. I am thinking that in future we may buy a smaller loaf or perhaps even experiment with individual sandwiches that we can sit on! Thanks for sharing a definite keeper.
