41 Reviews of Cranberry Orange Scones

I followed the recipe exactly, except that I used margarine instead of butter. These scones tasted FABULOUS!! The only problem I ran into was that after adding dry ingredients to mix, there was NO WAY that I could knead the dough! It was way to sticky. So, I just gave it a few extra mixes with the spoon and plopped it onto the pan in the shape of a patty. Although I couldn't cut it with a knife before baking (too sticky), they came out lightly browned, the glaze was perfect, and they tasted heavenly!! Next time I'll use regular butter. I think that may have been the problem. These are packed with flavor, not too high in fat, and have nutritious ingredients...definitely a "must-try" if you like the taste of cranberry and orange! Thanks, Sue L! ~Manda

These were absolutely delicious! I also found them very very wet, but I wet my knife before pressing down on the dough before baking. I have a son that doesn't like orange or cranberry and so I made two batches of this same recipe, leaving the cranberries and orange out, and they were equally delicious. One more thing, was I used 1 cup whole wheat pastry flour, and 1/2 cup unbleached flour for this to up the health factor. They turned out FANTASTIC! Probably one of the better scones that I've ever eaten.

Very, very good. Much lighter in texture than any scones I have made before. I handled the dough only sparingly. I didn't knead it, just took the dough out of the bowl with floured hands and patted it onto the baking sheet. I didn't make the glaze, either. I sprinkled it with a little sugar before putting it in the oven. Great recipe!

This is a wonderful recipe. A flaky outside and tender inside. I didn't have the buttermilk on hand so I used an equal amount of half and half and it turned out great. I also made this recipe using teaspoons of homemade orange marmalade in place of the orange zest...again with excellent results. Most definitely a keeper recipe!!

I made these this Sunday morning before walking, put them into the fridge, and my husband popped them into the oven. Voila! Hot scones and spiced tea for Sunday morning breakfast! So light and flaky and flavorful. I am going to share this recipe. I followed it exactly except for the delayed baking and refrigeration. Delicious!!

these are delicious! I "dropped" the dough onto the pan, biscuit shape. Kept moist for almost 10 days.

Delicious! I used part whole wheat flour, only because I ran out of white, and was suprised how light and tender these scones were. Lots of cranberries and the orange glaze is a lovely addition. Thanks, SueL, for a wonderful recipe!

Wonderfull!! These are better than any recipe I have tried. The dough can be made and frozen for later or the baked scones can be frozen and hold up well. I prefer the frozen dough better than the frozen scone but it is my personal preference. I also tried various other flavors like blueberry, banana, garlic and cheese...this recipe is very versatile!!! BRAVO!!

These scones are perfection! Nothing better with a morning cup of coffee or tea. Cranberry and orange go together like chocolate marries with milk. These scones are light and delicious without being too sweet. Mine I let brown a little more than the picture shown implies. I shared them with neighbors and they were so pleased with how light and moist they were. A must-have during Christmas-time, but not a bad thing to do all year around. And don't forget, cranberries are GOOD for you. By-the-way...you can make the dough ahead of time, and freeze (probably covered and sealed) in the freezer for several months. Just take out of the freezer the night before and thaw on the counter. In the morning, gently mold your patty (don't overwork that dough) and cut into wedges and bake. Voila! Freshly baked cranberry/orange scones. Better than Starbucks! (TIP: Try mixing in a little Grand Marnier, it takes a very little, into the glaze for a little kick). Also, if you don't have oranges on hand, try using culinary Orange Oil with just a little milk (or water), it's delicious as well. Just follow the equivalent on the bottle. I always have lemon, orange and lime oils in the refrigerator. I try and keep the fresh oranges (citrus for that matter) on hand ALL the time in my refrigerator, but sometimes they start to turn before I can get to using them. Orange oil is a GREAT alternative. And again, it takes for very little. 1/4 tsp. = 1 tbls. of fresh zest.

These were wonderful! Easy to make and very tasty! I will cook it for a bit less next time as the full time overcooked them. Thank-you for sharing this wonderful recipe!
