This was the closest to the Ortega brand we use and like so well. I used a whole clove of garlic. It was a bit hot for my youngest so will have to tone it done just a bit. But this is definitely the seasoning I'll use from now on.

Excellent taco meat mix! Even better than the store-bought packet! I mixed up the spices in a small bowl and set it aside then I browned and drained 1 lb. of meat, added the spices (the whole recipe) and about 1/2 cup water and cooked and stirred until the liquid was evaporated. I also added a few tablespoons of tomato puree which added another layer of tomato flavor but it wasn't necessary - this taco seasoning blend stands very nicely on it's own! Thanks Barbara!

Where has this been all my life??? This is fantastic! My kids were wild about it! My daughter is STILL raving about it, saying this made the best tacos she ever had! I used a dash of cayenne instead of the pepper flakes as my kids are timid when it comes to spicy things. I will NEVER buy a packet of taco seasoning again...another Zaar must try recipe folks!

The only used 1/4 teaspoon of the red pepper flakes and used 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder instead of the minced garlic. I just dumped each ingredient straight onto my cooked and drained ground beef. I used about 2/3 cup of water for the taco filling. I have also used this recipe with cooked chicken to make chicken burritos.

Made this exactly as written. Probably a first for me. I have a very hard time sticking to a recipe. But i'm glad I did. This is really good and so easy to put together. Thanks Opal for a great recipe that I will use over and over again. Rita

I was making Taco Junk #86393 which called for seasoning mix. Never have used pre-packed blends before and with this in my cookbook I never will. The flavors were just wonderful with quite a nice kick. We loved it, but those cooking for children or tender tongues may want to scale back a bit on the red pepper flakes. I skipped the salt as the canned beans in my dish had plenty.

Most excellent! I made a double batch and boy am I happy! Tonight the taco seasoning went onto nachos for the NFL Playoffs. The other batch will be for the super-bowl!!!

At our house we subtitute ground turkey a lot for ground beef. I had some ground turkey I was going to use for chow mein but then decided it was more efficient to make tacos, to go with the fresh salsa I made. I thought I would check out 'Zaar for a seasoning mix. This was excellent! I did have to double it since I was working with ground turkey. Thanks for posting! It saved me the trouble of experimenting when I needed something fast and a sure thing!

I added 1/2 tsp. of paprika for flavor and color. I used the mix on 2 lbs of lean ground beef, as I don't like too much salt. It was then used in a taco salad recipe.
