Accuracy wise this recipe is essentially spot-on....just a few adjustments. To make a true monty cristo EXACTLY as Bennigans does, use 1 1/2 oz (2 med slices) each of honey ham and smoked turkey, a commercial tempura mix (we use sun luck brand), and double-dip each half of the sandwich. be sure to fry each half after cutting, fry for 3 min 10 seconds, turning halfway through, and sprinkle the powdered sugar on RIGHT after taking from the oil. Enjoy!

Boy were these babies good! I really liked making this recipe, and it didn't take very long. We had a nice lunch of these sandwiches and fruit salad. All of the flavors together were so good. Thanks for sharing this keeper!!

Since our local Bennigans recently locked its doors, I was lamenting that I may never enjoy a proper Monte Cristo sandwich until I found this recipe. I just made 3 sandwiches today for my family and they were fabulous. I followed some advice found on another site and prepped the sandwiches last night, wrapped them tighly in plastic wrap (uncut) and stored them in refridge overnight. They stayed together well during cooking without needing toothpicks. The ingredients I used were: Oscar Mayer Deli Fresh Shaved Oven Roasted Turkey Breast Oscar Mayer Deli Fresh Shaved Honey Ham Jewel Brand Swiss Singles Jewel Brand American Singles Jewel Brand Wheat Bread Smucker's Red Raspberry Preserves I've posted a photo of my success with this tasty recipe: http://www.flickr.com/photos/30507067@N07/2856368581/

These were amazing! I usually don't fry anything, so I was worried about getting it right. I used about an inch and a half of vegetable oil in a non-stick pan. Wow. Usually with a recipe that I try I think," these were good but next time I'll add...", I couldn't improve these sandwiches even if I wanted to. Thanks!

A great recipe for Monte Cristo's! I had always avoided making these because I thought they would be tempermental to turn out. I admit now that I was wrong. This recipe is both easy and delicious. We really loved it. I used Country Hearth brand Potato bread. I also couldn't serve with jam because I was out but after trying the sandwich I would recommend having some on hand. Thanks!

This was really good! I used my deep fryer to fry them, and they tasted exactly like Bennigans. A really treat for my husband!
