29 Reviews of Sweet Italian Chili

Very good hearty soup, so thick that I added one more cup of water. The sugar was the last thing I added but before doing so I took the opportunity of sampling the soup. It was just like taking a bite of heaven when I sampled it. Then I added the sugar and did not like it as well. Two out of my three kids did not like the sugar either. I'll make this again, just without the sugar.

I'm not a chili fan at all. I've probably made chili only twice in my life. I had to try this chili since it is a sweet rather than spicy chili. This chili is fantastic! I had my serving as soon as the 1 1/2 hours simmering time was over and the flavors were outstanding. I cooked up some small pasta called ditalini and served my chili over that for a chili-mac meal. I followed the recipe except for using only 1 can of kidney beans and I used the 3 cloves of garlic that other reviewers recommended. As soon as I can find a chili contest, I'm going to enter with this chili!

5 BIG STARS....DH is a true Chili Head and I am more of a Pecid kinda gal. I fixed this exactly as given and just put it in front of him. He gave it a fine compliment...some people just back up on the chili powder and cumin, leaving it bland and tasteless. This sweet chili is just that sweet chili with good full flavor. I resisted the temptation to adjust the meat to 1C beef and 1/2 cup italian sausage, I didn't want to make it too much of a "pasta sauce with beans"....it's perfect as it is. Tempted two friends that are of the "bland chili" sort, and they loved it, they liked the italian side of the recipe. Great recipe. Thanks for posting

This recipe was a little too sweet for me so I added some more chili powder and cumin. I also added a little crushed red pepper. But, I loved the way is was sweet and then spicy. It was an awesome change to the same old chili. I also didn't have any cloves so I omitted them. I'll make this again.

Delicious. My seriously spice challenged family (they don't even like salt and pepper..) loved this, no complaints. I only made a few changes - 3 packages of Splenda instead of sugar, and extra tsps of cumin and chili powder. Amazing!

When I saw this recipe I just had to try it because of the unusual combination of Italian and Southwest spices. I'm really glad I did as it was very good. Went together quickly and you can kick your shoes off and rest for the simmer time! We had it for dinner two nights in a row and, in my opinion, it was even better the 2nd night! A keeper!

When Miss Diggy told us she won a blue ribbon w/this recipe I just had to try it! Unlike any other chili I've had, this is a chili that my DS's loved, unlike the spicy version that my DH and I love, but they don't. We were all very pleased w/this!

Yum! Will definitely make again. I used half as much water and a couple teaspoons of cloves, and I added a cup of chopped carrot and substituted 4 tablespoons of minced garlic for the garlic powder. Next time I'll bump up the bell pepper and onion to at least a cup each and use half as much chili powder, as I found it too spicy (but I don't like spicy food at all).

Nice dish. DH, who is a chili lover, loved it. We had it with corn muffin from Sweet Cornbread; very good. Lacks a bit of spicyness but nothing that a bit of hot sauce in your bowl cannot fix.

THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! New review.... I made this for a chili cook off, and I won first place with this wonderful chili. I knew it was a hit, and now so does everyone else. original review: THis was outstanding, and we enjoyed it so much. I made it with turkey burger, rather than lean ground beef, and I put in 3 cloves of garlic, and it was great! Thanks for a keeper! — posted Oct 23, 2002
