We had this soup for lunch today. I halved the recipe and it was just enough for the two of us. We love carrots. Therefore, I added one chopped carrot. The cheddar cheese sends this soup over the top! Be sure to drain sausage well. An Excellent Recipe! Prepared for the 2008 Photo Forum Comfort Food Event.

We really liked this soup - it had great flavor. Like another reviewer I left the potatoes chunky. I used hot sausage, a whole onion and minced garlic instead of garlic powder. Thanks for a great dinner on a cold rainy night!

This is a great dinner! I made it tonight for my hubbys fire station and it was a huge hit with the fire fighters. They loved it! I used hot sausage and added a can of chilis and it was great! Thank you for the great recipe for a new cook!

Wonderful soup! I used sweet italian sausage with basil. I browned it and then drained and rinsed the grease off of it. Used low fat chicken broth and added real garlic and red pepper flakes. Will try fat free half & half next time. I didn't see a need to thicken it. Very comforting, will definitely make again.

I have made this twice, and it is very easy to put together. I usually add a bit more garlic and onions than what the recipe calls for, but then again I think I have serious garlic addiction. Very quick and easy dinner, and i will repeat this one a lot.

I made this twice. This is a nice, thick, rich comforting soup. The first time I made it as the recipe was written. The second time, I made it with Spicy Italian sausage, minced garlic, homemade chicken stock, 1/2 and 1/2 instead of canned milk and a couple of teaspoons of Tabasco sauce. Will recommend this soup for a cold winter's night

Luscious comfort soup! I used lowfat brown n' serve link sausage, and fat free evaporated milk but it tasted like a diet-breaker. As written in step 7, I did mix a bit of cornstarch in cold water and added it to thicken the soup just a bit. I also like that it uses all ingredients that I usually have on hand.... so I can make this anytime! Thanx for sharing!

Add my vote to the group. 5 stars for ease of preperationa nd richness of taste. I used veggie sausage, fat free evap milk and fat fee cheese, I thickened it with a tsp and a half of cornstarch. The result does not taste low fat at all, it's very rich and satisfying. Thank you, MsSally, very much for this healthy soup that is a meal.

Very good and filling soup, nice winter night soup. I know it's good when my "picky" husband tells me it's good before I even ask. But then you can't go wrong with meat and potatoes in his book. I used regular sausage and only partically mashed the potatoes, leaving some whole and some smashed. I did add a little salt, too.

Everyone really enjoyed this. I added more broth than called for to stretch it a bit. My only complaint is that I had a hard time mashing the potatoes to the consistency I wanted so I used my emulsion blender but that chopped the sausage too much. Next time I will remove the cooked sausage b4 adding the potatoes and add it back in ad the end. Everything else is perfect. Very nice meal with a simple leafy salad. Thanks for posting.
