Loved the simplicity of this recipe! The fresh orange juice in ours really stood out and added a zing to an otherwise familiar dish. Everyone loved the Sloppy Joes and I am betting this recipe does very well in RSC because of its ingredients, very easy directions, a kid pleaser, and of course, its deliciousness. Next time I make them I would add red bell pepper, garlic powder and maybe a bit of onion powder. Good Luck Chef! Great Entry!

These were surprisingly good. I dont make sloppy joes very often but I will make these ones again, we enjoyed them for a nice change. We had an unexpected visitor, our son happened by and he loved them. I served them on whole wheat hot dog buns from the bakery. I used just half the amount of brown sugar Splenda mix. We were all pleasantly surprised with the use of orange juice as a sweetener, it worked very well with the touch of cider vinegar; the dry mustard added a very nice finish. The recipe did make enough for four, we had a wee bit left over which was eaten cold a little later; it was just as good cold as it was hot. Thanks for posting and good luck in the contest!

I would love to see bell peppers, garlic and fresh herbs to really bring this over the top! We found it sweet. So easy and quick to make. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing your tasty creation with us. We enjoyed this quick and easy to make dish very much. The sloppy joes were saucey, sweet and tangy. I especially like the addition of the fresh orange juice to the sauce. It gave it a fresh, alive taste. This was a very mild sauce, next time I make this I will add more cayenne, some fresh garlic and sea salt.

This RSC #9 entry is a simple and quick recipe for very tasty sloppy joes. Other than substituting Splenda Brown Sugar, I followed the recipe exactly. Served on a hamburger roll, and leftovers were heated and served with elbow macaroni (also very good). I will definitely make this again.

Maybe I'm strange, but I absolutely love Heinz sloppy joe sauce from a can and I despise the Hunts brand. I am picky about my sloppy joe sauce because the sauce is really the show of the meal...right? Anyway, I made this because a previous review or two described it as light and refreshing with the O.J. I did not start with a fresh orange but used orange juice not from concentrate thinking that would be close enough. Otherwise followed exactly. I thought I would have too much liquid in the end if I covered the brew, so I simmered without my lid. After 20 minutes the consistency was perfect and we had sloppy joes on bread (but we like it on hot dog buns when we want to pick it up and eat it...less messthan hamburger buns). Now, this is a compliment, remember...this tasted just like Heinz with a hint of orange and now when I run out of my fav I will make this from the ingredients I usually have in my pantry and satisfy that mighty sloppy-joe craving! Here's a funny...I could not find my soy sauce anywhere and I was panicked because I had everything else already in the pot cooking so I remembered the leftover chinese takeout packets of soy sauce that I always have around in my pantry...just so you know 2 TB is almost exactly 2 1/2 packets of soy sauce!
. I did expect something unusual and extra-ordinary but it missed the mark a little for the "different" catagory...that's why I'm rating it 4 instead of 5 stars. However it rates a 5 for becoming a new favorite and a very good standby for my tried and true cookbook. Thank you!

These sloppy joes are very good and make a really easy & quick lunch or supper. With their mild sauce, the sloppy joes are a definite kid-pleaser. They do need salt. We also felt that doubling both the brown sugar and cider vinegar would nicely increase the sweetness and tanginess. The recipe yielded eight sloppy joes. Good luck in the contest!

Definitely very sweet and tangy and a smart, quick dish using the contest ingredients. I think the sweetness would really appeal to children; my DH loves sweets and could absolutely not get enough of this. I'm lucky he let me have a whole sandwich to myself! The orange flavor was quite strong and my orange gave me half a cup of juice, but I attribute that to the amazing fresh oranges here in Florida.
