These were certainly tasty pies and we enjoyed them with soup and salad for dinner, but they lacked the !Wow! factor that I'm looking for to give a higher star count. Much as I enjoyed the pies - I kept wanting to add a little something more and I really noticed that when I was eating them - that's when I thought mushrooms and some fresh peppers. I would really suggest you cool the meat mixture down substantially before filling the pastry squares. The hot mixture started to sog into the puff pastry and the bottom never puffed up or crisped properly. I tried a second batch a while later (with a much cooler meat mixture) and that worked fine. This is a very adaptable recipe with the potential of interesting flavour variations. Good luck in the contest, chef!

I like these pies a lot! The stuff on the inside is my favorite! I ate some of the tomatoes but not all of them because I don't like tomatoes that much. Thank you Chef!

Reviewed for RSC # 9. These little suckers are addictive ! The blend of flavours is simple but good and the only reason that I couldn’t give this 5 stars was that in countries where the humble meat pie is king: Australia and New Zealand, the filling is usually a little creamier and thicker … so that’s what I’d expect slightly more from a meat pie recipe. It’s simple to make and is a Southern hemisphere treat that makes a nice change from our normal Northern hemisphere eating. I’d try and thicken up the sauce a little more if I made them again, but the flavour was good enough. Thanks!!!

Very enjoyable meal. It took me 3 pies to figure out how to best close the pastry. Once I figured it out they began looking much better! We felt it needed a little more salt. I think a mixture of potatoes and carrots in the filling would be good. Over all - I enjoyed the meal. Thank you for a nice dinner.

Great little Meat Pies! I love the simplicity of this recipe! They were super easy to prepare and the flavors were very family-friendly. I made this recipe as part of our family RSC Pillow Tasting "Party" and this recipe was loved by the guys. Topped with Sour Cream they are super! Good Luck Chef!

We absolutely LOVED these! It was quick, easy, and tasted sooooo great. I added some chopped celery and some mushrooms to it just to get in some extra veggies. I served it with some mashed potato's and a salad and the family couldn't get enough. It has already been requested to have again!

This was great. Very quick and easy to make with ingredients found in most pantries. The flavours all blended very well together. We enjoyed this very much, thanks for sharing.

I really should have looked at the photos before making these. I had NO idea how to close up a puff pastry sheet having never worked with them. Sadly mine popped open a bit but were still EXCELLENT! I too had the problem of the mix making the pastry squishy and easy to tear. I think I'll try the other reviewer's idea of letting the mixture cool a little next time I do this recipe. I thought it needed more veggies so I cleaned out the fridge. I had about 1/4 cup of chopped potatoes, a couple tablespoons of chopped portabella mushrooms, and 1/4 cup chopped fresh green beans. YUM! It was a little on the sweet side (which I normally don't like) but tasted excellent. I still have about a cup of left over "mix" I think I will put it over rice tonight!
