Delicious!!! I was planning to make these and picked up the ingredients, but hadn't tried them yet when friends stopped by unexpectedly. I whipped them together in two minutes flat and now they think I'm some kind of cooking goddess!
I made them exactly as indicated except I couldn't find the mini loaf so I cut regular rye into squares of four.
Thanks for sharing!!!

I used pumpernickel bread, cut into four pieces and followed the recipe exactly. I did coarsely chop the mushrooms. I feel I could have used a bit less mayo, perhaps adding part first then adding more if desired. However, they passed the taste testers (DH and myself of course LOL!) Such a lovely canape and simple! The onion rings added just the right extra flavor to the topping, along with a little crunch. I would not hesitate to put these out at a party and they are good room temp! Thanks cookiedog Edited to add: I have made these again and I change my mind about the mayo, you need at least very close to the full amount for the best flavor! It may look like too much, but it is not. In case you are wondering, DH and I love foods like this for a light supper (we are not entertaining every time we have something like this) and it is so easy to make

I just loved this! I did change the recipe a little though. I had fresh mushrooms, so sauteed them in a little olive oil, then mixed with the parmesan and the onions. Loved the crunch and so much flavor! Thank you cookie!

I also saw this on Paula's show, loved it, tried it, then loved it even more! My friend & I competed one "play date" for best new mushroom appetizer and this blew hers out of the water! She agreed. Super easy too!!

I saw this on Paula Deen's show the other day and decided to try it today and I have to say I was dissapointed. I felt it was too salty and the mayo was overpowering. I think I will try it again with different brands of mayo and parmesan cheese.

These were very tasty. My husband prefered the ones that came out more toasted. I also used a 4 oz can of mushrooms and still thought the mayo was a bit heavy. I will make these again with even less mayo and some fresh sauteed mushrooms. It tasted like I was eating french onion soup with mushrooms. Maybe put a little slice of swiss cheese on top? Yum!

A tasty treat. I doubled the recipe, sauteed and chopped about 5-6 oz. of Baby Bella mushrooms instead of using canned mushrooms, which, to me, don't have much flavor. Also forgot to toast the party pumpernickel first but it didn't seem to matter. I made the spread early in the day and assembled later. Quick and easy. Thanks, from Janet

We must have all been watching the same episode! I too was eager to try this and today I did. They were excellent--not only in appearance, but taste as well. I do agree with other reviewers that there was a bit too much mayo (maybe not in Paula's eyes!
. Next time I make these I will reduce the mayo by just a smidge. I also will be adding garlic powder as I am a big fan of garlic. I also used Asiago cheese instead of Parm (had on hand) and it was delish. Overall, an excellent recipe! They were a hit at the Christmas party! Thanks for posting, Cookiedog!
