Made this for a party and everyone raved about it! Cut the "hot" stuff by half and it still had a kick. Thanks!

WHOA!!! THANKS ED! This is one of the best chili recipes I've have tasted. Well worth the effort to chop all the veggies. Had a little trouble mashing the whole tomatoes into manageable bites. I am not a big fan of cilantro and at first found it a little overpowering but after adding the OJ ect, it just added a nice kick. Had to use garlic from a jar as clove garlic is a little hard to find here but didnt seem to matter much.

My family makes me make this as often as possible. The spice mix can't be beat, and the various tastes compliment each other well. I did make some adaptions for our particular tastes, though the chili is great as is. In the spice mix, I only used about a tablespoon of sugar, and no cilantro, and I don't put the cocoa in with the spice mix, but add it by tablespoons until it tastes "right"---sometimes using more or less cocoa. I also left out the celery, jalepanos, and the sweet & sour mix---I use beer instead. I also added kidney or black beans. I suppose ours is a "toned down" version, but it suits those with sensitive tastes. Thanks for the great recipe!

The THE KILLER COCOA CHILI SPICE MIX is fantastic! This recipe makes awesome chili! I made a few modifications minor modifiations - I used half ground sirloin, half ground turkey, subbed beer for the sweet and sour mix, and realized at the end I didn't have any chocolate. This is SO good! I got 10 servings out of this, and it's definately going in my regular rotation. One caveat - as is this is very spicy. I cut the heat with some sour cream. Definately a wonderful recipe - thanks for sharing Ed!

Cooking this now for the first time. Slightly modified for personal tastes, but just the same, it smells great, looks great and tastes great. I just know everyone will love it. One modification that I would suggest is using Dagoba brand Xocolatl organic dark chocolate with chilies and cacao nibs as the chocolate bar. A bit pricey maybe - but only half will do for the chili and you can save the rest for a snack later!

We enjoyed this. It was, dispite the long list of ingredients and directions, very easy to make and was good for a weeknight meal. I used 2 10oz cans of the rotel tomatoes with the jalapino peppers in them, drained, in place of one of the cans of crushed tomatoes and left out the bell pepper and jalapeno peppers. I also couldn't find swt & sour mix so i left it out. I made the spice mix almost exactly although I substituted some ingredients here and there. I also like beans in my chili so I added a can of kidney beans. This was a very good chili, served over fritos (DH's fave) with cheese on top and a dalop of sour cream and chopped green onion. I even have enough left over for another night which is always nice. I will be making this again and look forward to playing with the ingredients. Great post, thanks.

This is very good. Even with the long list of ingredients it is quite easy to put together and well worth it. I did not have the sweet and sour cocktail mix. I did look this up on line and learned that it could be made with equal parts sugar, lime juice, lemon juice and water. While the chili itself is quite decadent, you need to give this a try on top of macaroni and cheese--sinfully delicious.

Can I just say "YUM"!!!! My husband thought I was nuts when I said I was fixing chocolate chili...but after he tasted it, he ate his words. He asks for it often. Thanks for the post!
