This was so good, I've made it twice in the past week, once as a side dish and the next as a topping for nachos. I too added a little bit of onion along with the garlic because I had some extra on hand. Just one note, in step 4, boil on a low heat to prevent burning as the mixture likes to stick to bottom of the pan.

My DH and I loved this dish! I only used about 1/4 of a jalapeno and for the beans used a mix of kidney and pinto I had cooked in the crockpot. Thank you!

Outstanding beans. I made them as a side dish to my burros and they were terrifically authentic. A must try. Thanks for posting the recipe. I prepared them as directed with the exception of backing down to half of a jalepeno because I'm a wuss.

Very good. I halved the recipe and left off the cheese. I thought this was a great side to Chicken Burritos.

YUMMY and EASY! I made it as directed with pickled jalapenos. I enjoyed it in High Fiber Bean Tacos/Burritos. Made for the Zaar Stars tag game.

This was awesome!! I love black beans. I order them any chance I get in restaurants. Although I've made recipes that call for them, I've never actually made it as a dish at home. I was not disappointed. I make some type of beans for my family at least once a week and this is definitely going in my rotation. Only thing was I "forgot" how salty broth can be and salted it before I tasted it. Next time I don't even think I'll add any salt. Thanks!!

This dish was easy and delicious. I substituted pinto beans for the black beans since my husband and I like them better. We served it with fish tacos and fresh pico de gallo from this site. Although I got worried that the liquid wouldn't cook down, it turned out just fine. Thanks for sharing!

VERY VERY VERY good! Thank you for this wonderful recipe. I skip the cilantro and cheese(personal preference) and it is still excellent. For two days now all I had for lunch was the leftover beans and a big salad..YUM YUM. : p
