I followed the recipe ratios as given, and based on the suggestions of other reviewers, I used canned diced tomatoes ( Hey it's January in Minnesota !! ) and I used a crockpot. The chili was very good, however based on the chili I bought last night at Wendy's, I must warn you that this recipe has more heat. Also because I was not simmering the chili in an open pot, mine was not as thick. To make up for that, I added one tablespoon of corn starch mixed with an equal amount of cold water. Of course timing will be different using a crockpot, so I called it done when the tomatoes started to fall apart, and the onion was no longer crunchy.

I loved the texture, it was very similar to Wendy's. Flavour was not the same but it was still delicious. First time I followed the recipe exactly and was un-decided on whether it was to salty or not, some bites were way to salty. With seasonings it is often personal preference. Second time I adjusted the seasoning to 1 tsp black pepper, 1 tsp of salt, 1/2 tsp oregano, 1/2 tsp sugar. Used one green chili(jalapeno with seeds). Other seasonings were kept the same. Fresh spices make a big difference to flavour. I used two cans of kidney beans and simmered for 2 hours. This makes about 8 cups and freezes very nicely. Thanks for sharing, it is a keeper!!!

This recipe taste so good it has got to be a joke. I used ground turkey instead of beef and you cant event tell the difference!! and instead of chopped tomatoes i used rotel diced tomatoes and green chilis. Its not even done cook and it tastes rediculous.

Excellent! My new chili recipe; and it does taste just like Wendy's. I followed the recipe exactly; but next time I may cut back on the beans. Wonderful, thanks for posting it.

Well, I wouldn't have believed it unless I'd tried it myself! I made one minor change... I'm not sure if the diced chili peppers is a mistype... because the only peppers I've seen in the vats of Wendy's chili over the years are standard GREEN PEPPERS... but I bought both and decided to just do the green peppers...and WOW... this was great. The longer you simmer, the thicker it gets... my husband likes it thicker, so I took some out for myself early... and it was just perfect!! This is a keeper!! Thank you for sharing!

"Perfect"....is the word my husband used to describe this chili. We've been married for almost 17 years and I don't recall him ever using that term for anything I've made....and I am not a bad cook, he's just a very critical eater. He used to cook for a living years ago and he knows what he likes. I liked the chili too. I didn't follow the measurements on the spices exactly since he has a sensitive stomach. Next time I will follow the measurements for them because even my husband said it needed a little more kick than what I gave it. I used canned diced tomatoes instead of fresh tomatoes since I didn't have any on hand. Turned out just fine. I will use this as my standby for chili from now on!

After 46 years of searching for a good chile recipe, I found it. This chile is absolutely SCREAM'N to say the least. I love Wendy's chile and this chile is as close (if not better) than Wendy's! At last I found something that is very easy to make, and actually "better than Mom's"....sorry Mom, and thank you Pam!! Definitely THREE THUMBS UP!!!
