Better than store brought!!!
I needed some Italian sausage and only had some mild pork sausage in the house so I decided I would try this recipe for Sausage and Cheese Potato Casserole. I also used Italian Dressing Seasoning Dry Mix cause I didn't have any Italian seasoning.
This was a fantastic recipe! We really enjoyed the flavor alot!
Thanks so much for sharing this great recipe! Its one I know I will be using alot more often, for sure

Hi Kittencal, I wanted a meat with a bit of flavor to sub for sausage (since my kids aren't fond of it). I used lean ground beef and omitted the anise seeds. This was very flavorful and added a nice dimension to Tortellini Bolognese by Christmas Carol. Thanks for posting. Roxygirl

This recipe inspired me to create my own sausages! I made porc & tofu sausages tonight and all my family loved it! I have done some changes to the recipe (ommit parsley, replace the italian seasonings by dried oregano & basil, etc.) but wanted to say that the base of that recipe is truly amazing, I recommend it!
Get inspired!

I live out of the country now where they do not sell pork sausage. This worked great for my sausage stuffing! Thanks so much!

What can I say, I have lived here in Costa Rica 3 years and the sausage here thats marked Italian tastes like hot dogs. in the states I used to have an Italian sausage sandwich for lunch but have been unable to find any decent sausage here. I doubled this and made the tortellini and Italian sausage it was fantastic (froze some for another time). I had to use shells since they don't have tortellini here and I couldn't find a recipe for making tortellini. Oh well, one step at a time. Thanks Kittecal

This was reallly good! I used ground turkey instead of pork. And because I don't care for them, I left out the anise seeds. It was still very good. You're right, it does make a wonderful pizza topping. That's just what I made it for! Thanks for sharing the recipe!

My son, the Boy Scout, decided to make spaghetti sauce with spicy Italian Sausage for a Camp out cooking contest. Went to the grocery store for Italian sausage and not one package of Italian Sausage to be found--they were entirely sold out of either hot or sweet Italian Sausage. I purchased a pound of ground pork and told my son we'd think of something. Of course, I was thinking of Recipezaar--the community boards if nothing else. Was I pleased to find this recipe. This turned out well and, yes, it was a winner! I mixed the meat and seasonings before we left on the trip knowing they would use it the next day. It was great!

Excellent! I used this for Pizza Balls, and it couldn't have been better! I used the crushed fennel seeds, and they gave a very authentic taste.

Very good - my family does not eat pork and it is difficult to find beef italian sausage so I decided to make my own using this seasoning mix. It came out perfect and now I can make my moms spaghetti sauce minus the pork. Thanks for an authentic tasting seasoning mix.
