I "high-tailed" it to the store to buy the ingred. after seeing Marg's gorgeous photo! I bought a "Frosty Blue Gatorade" that was really pale, so I added a few drops of blue food coloring and it was just the right shade. This is the kind of recipe that inspires my kids (who don't like to cook much). Thanks so much, Pam, for posting your FUN recipe. Roxygirl

I kept telling my girls that I had a big surprise for them on 4th of July. I hid the ingredients and brought them out right before dinner. They all thought it was the coolest thing in the world! My suggestion to others is to follow the directions and don't skimp on the ice. Add more after each layer and your drinks will separate out perfectly every time! Thanks Pam-I-Am for making me look amazing to my teenage daughters! KCShell

We loved this drink! Even the adults! It really tasted like cranberry juice & 7up, which we mix & drink all the time. I was worried about the Gatorade, but it didn't have a negative effect on the flavor. My photo isn't quite as beautiful as NCMS', so I'll post it in the photo forum instead. But I wanted to warn everyone that I accidentally bought regular 7up & that's why it started to sink & mix with the Gatorade. Also, there are two kinds of blue Gatorade at my grocery store. One that has a name like "Frosty Blue", "Ice Blue" or something like that & then the original dark blue with no specific name. I used the dark blue. Thanks for posting Pam! I can't wait til next year to make it again!

What fun!!! My kids thought this was great. Unfortunately, I only had regular 7-up. Since the sugar content was between the cranberry juice and Gatorade, I tried put the white layer in the middle. Apparently, the 7-Up sugar content was too close to the Gatorade's as they didn't stay separated very well. They still tasted great even without them looking quite right. I'll try it again sometime with the right ingredients.

this was such a cute idea! I used light cranberry juice so as you see from my picture I had to end up changing the order of the colors, but it still looked great! it even tasted better than I thought it would! and the color held up for a loooong time. I will use this every patriotic holiday. thanks!

I wanted to leave a comment only, since I made a variation of this drink today while watching the Super Bowl Playoffs (The Patriots won..the drink was in their honor). I didn't have cranberry juice in the house, so I subbed pomegranate juice instead. While this still was a tasty drink this way, the pomegranate juice didn't allow quite as lovely a layered effect as in the photo. Thanks for sharing

Loved the science and look of this drink but kids nor myself cared for the taste. Used a spoon to drizzle the blue in-basically to help the liquid "float" Use ingredients as stated because the weight of each ingredients is what keeps it from mixing. Thanks so much for posting.

Excellent drink! It is certainly appropriate for our election night celebration! However, I did not use sugar free soda and it turned out fine. I did have to switch the gatorade and soda around due to sugar content.
