I really enjoyed this, it's like eating caramel syrup. My mom decided that she wanted it on ice cream more than pancakes though. Make sure you use a BIG pan when cooking it even though it doesn't seem like there's a lot. It foams up A LOT and I had to hold it off the heat so it wouldn't spill over. Thanks for the recipe!

What a travesty that I can't rate this 5,000 stars! What a versatile and yummy treat. I made it in the evening and served it as a dessert sauce, then another morning as syrup for waffles, then today, upon raiding the fridge during a snack attack, discovered it makes an AWESOME apple dip. I had eaten it straight on a banana, then got the idea to mix it half & half with natural peanut butter for the apple dip. Alone, it's like a caramel dip, but rich and buttery-flavored; so much better than the store stuff. Thanks for this great recipe!

After cooking for 57 years, this would be included in my top ten favorite recipes. It is truly luscious! Thanks, Laura.

This syrup is absolutely delicious! I fixed it for my family of 7 plus 2 guests and we ate it over French Toast for dinner. We all ended up dipping our bacon and eggs in it too! It was that yummy! I will be making this a permanent part of my recipe collection. I suggest using a large pan, like a soup pot or something, because it foamed up very high and spilled over the sides. I just kept stirring and turned the heat low enough to keep it boiling, (but not boiling over) and it turned out perfectly. You won't regret making this syrup!!!

I've been looking for this recipe for ages. My grandmother uses this as a glaze on applesauce cake and gosh is it ever good. She forgot the proportions, and I'm so happy to have found it here. We cook the mixture until it's brown and reaches the softball stage, then beat it until thick.

great recipe. be sure to remember your 7th grade science class (buttermilk is an acid and baking soda is a base). The first time I made this, I added the baking soda in at the end and I ended up with syrup all over my stove

This is the most delicious syrup recipe. My husband joked he wanted it over icecream.
We are going to try some apples dipped in it later. Thank you for the wonderful recipe!

I remember eating in Gatlinburg Tenn. at the Log Cabin Pancake House on Airport Rd. I had French Toast Royal, I wanted to pick up my plate and lick it, well I just had that same feeling with this syrup. I think it may be the same syrup. They would not give out the recipe, said it was a secret. Thank you for a great recipe. I will be making this often.
