I can't compair this to Carrabas, but this was amazing, and I got lots of compliments. I am not good at judging spice amounts, so I went to the community boards and asked for help. SuperSpike came to the rescue and gave me some suggested amounts to use. Black pepper 1/4 tsp if finely ground or 1/2 tsp if coarse. Basil 1 tsp, oregano 1 tsp, parsley 1 tsp and thyme 1/2 tsp. I used her suggestions exactly and I will use those again, amazing taste. Thank you for your recipe.

It does taste like a night out at Carrabba's! We used one teaspoon of each of the seasonings including the red pepper flakes; along with the spicy Italian sausage it had the perfect "zing" to it! We were out of parmesan so sprinkled with some shredded mozzarella which was delicious. Note: 2 cups dry lentils=one 14 oz. pkg...next time I won't have to measure and there will be a next time! YUM!

I changed the recipe quite a bit bacause I sis not have all of the ingredients. I elimated the zucchini, instead adding baby bella mushrooms and spinich. I reduced the lentils to 1 1/2 cups, and at the end I added 2 additional cups of chicken broth (It was too think for me). After all of that the soup got rave reviews from my family. I will make again.

I'm really happy to have found this recipe as this is one of the best soup we've ever had. It was so quick and easy to throw together and I got sort of creative along the way. I had some spinach that needed a home so I chopped it up and threw it in. I also gave it a healthy shot of red wine vinegar (after reading other reviewers comments) and then I dosed it with some Tabasco for good measure. This is an excellent recipe to clean out your fridge of assorted vegetables. It's also an excellent OAM recipe. It makes a huge pot of soup and I shared the bounty with an invalid and I froze lunch-size portions. As for one reviewer's comment that it was too thick....add water, duh! I think I added about an extra 3 cups of water and my soup was delicious and creamy and I didn't puree any of it, it did it all on it's own. I (and my daughter who already snagged the recipe from me) will definitely be making this again and again....it was an instant family favorite. Thanks so much for posting this recipe Boo's Mom.

Such a great soup! Very similar to Carraba's. I'm always on the hunt for their recipes; it's my favorite restaurant. I also add a little red wine vinegar and sprinkle it with parmesan. Thanks for the recipe!

I made this Sunday and it turned out yummy! Not to mention easy to make. I also get this whenever I eat at Carrabbas!

We really liked this soup. My husband has it everytime he goes to Carraba's and we were searching for a recipe to make it at home. I think it is identical in taste, a little thicker in texture. It is delicious and will be one of our favorite recipes. Pretty easy to make too!

this was good, but not as good as carrabas version. It was easy to make and we felt that 1 1/2 cups of lentils would have made for a better texture. Thanks.

Made this last night. Absolutely fantastic. my hubby does not like soup for a meal, he loved this one. I did saute the carrots, celery, and onion in the pan that I browned the sausage in just to pick up the flavor left behind. Then I deglazed the pan with a bit of the chicken broth. I will be making this often.

I am not rating this as a comparison to Carrabba's, because I have never tried theirs. The flavor of this soup was a bit bland, and I cannot put my finger on why. I added about 1T of basil, oregano and parsley and 1t of thyme, pepper. I might increase those a bit, use crushed tomatoes instead of diced and 1/2 to 1 cup less of lentils next time. Definitely worth a second attempt.
