This one received RAVE reviews when I cooked it. Perfect for this busy holiday season! I used Freida's dried mushrooms in a combination of Morel, Padi Straw, Wood Ear and Shiitake, but next time I'll just use regular button mushrooms, and increase the thyme to 1 tsp. The meat was incredibly tender, but the veggies still had some body, and didn't completely turn to mush. A recipe to keep & repeat!

Thanks for the terrific recipe. I mixed some pork with the beef, but otherwise followed the recipe exactly. It was so delicious, and it smelled so good cooking that my dog begged by the crockpot all day! My friend brought fresh Italian bread and desert, and we had a terrific meal. I will definitely make this again. Kat

Hi Nan,...Excellent! Tell your husband his recipe rates more than 5 stars.I almost browned the meat first but decided to stick to the instructions; it came out great without all that trouble. I did add 1 chopped onion and 1 chopped shallot and a bit more sliced garlic. My son (the chef )was here for supper and he was really impessed witht he taste of such a simple recipe. He spent time Switzerland doing his apprentice so he does have a fine palate and nose. When I get questions about what is in the recipe I know I hit a good mark. Thank you for sharing this one; it's in my Book of Best from Zarr. I made it for WT4. Rita

Super good stew. Wonderful to come in to a meal that is ready to put on the table! Five for the aroma lone. Other then using button mushrooms made as posted and wouldn't change a thing. Definitely a repeat recipe at our house too.

We enjoyed this stew for dinner last night. It was very easy to get the ingredients in the crock pot. There was very little liquid when the stew was ready and we like our stews a little more liquid-y. Other than that, the meat was tender and the veggies were cooked to perfection. Thanks for posting!

Excellent rich, hearty stew! I followed the ingredient list and directions, except for using button mushrooms. Although I'm sure the wild mushrooms would add more flavor depth, I had buttons on hand that needed to be used, and they worked well. Your husband definitely found a "keeper"
