THANK YOU BOTH, LORAC & LINDA!!! I never would have tried a cake-mix cookie on my own, but after reading Lorac's thread about the killer chocolate-orange combo, I had to give it a shot. These were wonderful! I used orange cake mix, and (as I was out of chips) 2 cut-up Ritt milk chocolate bars. Heavenly tasting, wonderfully textured, and not a single person I served them to suspected they came from a box. A real winner, especially considering how easily and quickly they came together! Thank you very much! UPDATE: I've made these yet again. Half a batch the chocolate-orange, and the other half a devil's food with white chocolate chunks & almond bits. Mmm. I even made a few of the cookies yin-yang style and they looked superb and were really just the best of both worlds. Thanks again, you've made some quite happy people here! (posted 5/20/2002)UPDATE AGAIN!! Made a fresh batch with spice cake mix and cinnamon chips. What a great and different cookie! I think these would do smashingly as a holiday 'gift' cookie with a little bit of cream cheese icing on top.

I made 2 versions of these cookies. The first was devil's food cake mix with peanut butter chips. Everyone loved them! I also made chocolate fudge with white chocolate chips. The only problem I could see was everyone trying to decide which one to take! These are so easy and very delicious! I took them out of the oven at 8 minutes, to keep them soft. I will try more combinations. A keeper!

My 15 YO son made these cookies for an after school snack today with a chocolate cake mix, chocolate chips, and butterscotch chips. Our oven is so small that baking traditional round cookies takes a really long time because we can put in only one cookie sheet at a time. Therefore, we always make bar cookies. DS prepared the batter as directed and then proceeded as we bake bar cookies: 1. Spray a 9 X 13 metal baking pan with vegetable cooking spray. 2. Pour prepared batter into greased pan. 3. Bake 20 minutes. 4. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes. 5. Cut into square--we got 32 cookies. Other DS has requested strawberry cake mix cookies for the near future. Thanks for a great recipe.

These are awesome! I made all my Christmas cookie with cake mix. I did though alter the recipe slightly by using a quarter cup of melted butter and a quarter cup of oil it gives the cookies more of a "homemade" taste. They are also great bacause my stand mixer can do 2 boxes at a time and instead of having to start over with creaming butter and sugar I can just throw another box in. I am making some right now with Devils food mix and mint chips!

Great cookies - you'd never know they were from a cake mix!! These were very easy to make and tasty too! I used I cup of chocolate chips, I cup butterscotch and 1/2 cup walnuts. Next time I will use only peanut butter chips - a bit too much chocolate this time! Great recipe and I highly recommend it!!

I've made these twice in a month, which is more cookie baking than I'd done the previous 2 years! They were delicious - the first time I used chocolate cake w/ white chips, and today I made devil's food cake w/ rasberry chips. Delicious! Don't ignore the instruction to leave the cookies on the sheet for 2 minutes before moving to cooling rack; otherwise the cookies fall apart.

After spending all these years looking for a perfect cookie recipe I never would have thought that I will find one from boxed cake mix! The cookies wore soft, and delicious! I made two batches one of chocolate with white chips and one of with butter caked mix and regular chocolate chips, each one received rave revues. When I first mixed them I was a little concerned about the outcome as the batter seemed very greasy, but the baked beautifully although I did shorten the baking time just a bit. Even people that are in the catering business wore raving about how good they wore! Everyone was asking for the recipe but I just could not bring myself to tell anyone how easy they are to make! I would give this cookie 10 stars if I could!

All I can say is ....... YUM!!!! These turned out excellent. I have had cake mix cookies before (my neighbor would only make cookies this way) and I was never really taken with them. I grew up with my mom who is an EXCELLENT cook and baker and I didn't even have store bought cookies very often. But these...... Ohhhhh.... were GREAT! I used Devils food cake with chocolate/ carmel swirl chips. Excellent combination. I did take someone elses advice and reduced the amount of oil to 1/3 cup and they are still VERY moist and delicious. I also baked them in my oven on the Convection setting at 350 degrees for 7 minutes. Perfect baking time. Thanks for sharing this great recipe Linda!! I will be buying more cake mixes to have on hand tomorrow!!

Wow, this was so easy and good. My 11 yr old daughter and I made a batch, and she made a batch all by herself. We made a batch w/ yellow cake mix and milk choc. chips and a batch w/ devils food cake and milk choc. chips. Both were wonderful! I will make my cookies like this from now on, Thanks for posting!!!

Awesome Cookies!!! I loved these cookies and so did my family! I used a chocolate cake mix and a bag of chocolate and peanut butter chips mixed. And best of all... no one expected that they came from a cake mix! I want to try the orange cake mix and chocolate chips next time... or maybe strawberry cake mix with white chocolate chips... so many combinations... it's really hard to decide! I will definitely make these again!
