The best oatmeal in the world. Now DH and I hesitate when thinking of having our oatmeal any other way. I substituted brown sugar with Splenda, and of the various apples I've tried (yes, we've been having this several days in a row now!)tart ones like Granny Smith are the best, and cut into biggish chunks. What we don't eat at one breakfast I reheat the next day without any loss of quality. I have also added raisins to this, jumbo Thompson's are my favourite. I don't find this complete without some milk (rice, soy, canned,or regular)when serving it out. This method of preparation raises oatmeal to a whole new level. What a find!

This is exactly the type of recipe I've been searching for to get my kids off the packaged oatmeal and eating the "real" stuff - they woke up to such a sweet smell, and immediatly wanted to eat!! My kids actually ate something healthy and I didn't have to fight them!! I used a cinnamon spice mix of cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and it really upped the "yum" factor. And as a bonus, my DH ate it, too! I'll experiment with the different fruits as I expect this to be the preferred breakfast through the upcoming fall and winter seasons!! Great recipe!!

This was awesome. I cut up big chunks of apples and strawberries. It was a little bland with only the 1/3 cup of brown suger so I used some Splenda to sweeten. Also, I don't know why but there was some water left over that I had to drain out. I will use 1/2 cup less next time. All in all a very nice treat...I love easy things!

I love the way my house smelled when we woke up this morning! Although this is good, I agree with the other posters that said they would reduce the water a bit and cut the apples into bigger chunks. I let it cook for 8.5 hours and that was too long. When it was done cooking, I added a tablespoon of flax seed and some walnuts for a nutty, crunchy flavor.

A very easy way to have oatmeal. The oatmeal did have a different texture, more smooth, than the quick oats I usually eat, I'm not sure if that is due to the different oats or the long cooking time. Doesn't really matter, because it turned out delicious. I'm going to try this with other fruit. I'd suggest stirring in some cream or milk right before eating, especially with a fruit like blueberries or peaches.

This was really good idea, and it tasted really good, but I think it needed a little less water with a little more oats. It was a little runny. We loved it though, and will try it again soon with the slightly different measurements.

This was a really nice way to get back into "real" oatmeal. I think next time I'll increase the water by 1 cup and add a bit more brown sugar. This went very well with Vanilla Soy Milk.

Loved that this can be made in the crock while I sleep. Wonderful to have breakfast waiting for me! This was good but I thought that it needed more flavor. Maybe I expected incorrectly. I will try again- perhaps with half apple juice half water?

This is the first time I've left something overnight to cook. I did it in my oven, on the slow setting, and it came out perfect. The smell of apples, cinnamon - and the nutmeg & ground cloves & allspice I added - .....mmmmmm! We'll be eating this lots during the British winter! Thanks!

This was so easy to do! A few minutes prep the night before and we woke up to a hot breakfast. We like ours sweeter so added more brown sugar after serving. I halved the recipe to serve 2 adults and 2 toddlers, and I added raisins. I'm going to be making this a lot now with different fruit. I love being able to have hot oatmeal all ready to go on busy mornings.
