Excellent pie. Easy to make and delicious. My kids love puddings too, so I can see we will be making this in all its pudding variations as well: vanilla, coconut or banana. Almost as easy as pudding out of the box but much tastier! Update..this was so good I couldn't wait to try it again as a coconut cream pie. My daughter suggested I cover top with plastic wrap as it cooled and top it with whipped cream before serving. Divine!

At the advice of my mom, I decided to make this for my Survivor group last night. It was a hit. I found it very easy to make. My only problem was that I didn't make enough. I thought one pie would be sufficient for 6 people, but as most everyone wanted seconds I should have made two. Thanks for sharing Lennie.

Delish! Due to lack of whole milk, I improvised and used 1 cup half and half, 1 cup skim milk, and 1 cup heavy cream. LOL It worked out just fine! For those who aren't sure how thick the custard should be in the saucepan: It should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon. Run your finger along the back of the spoon, and if you can mark a distinct line, it's ready. The custard should be very thick and bubbly. If you don't cook the mixture long enough, it will never set up properly- regardless of how long you chill it. 2 tbsp. banana liquor was added to the filling. Homemade whipped cream and toasted almond flakes topped this pie. My grandmother and mother-in-law said it was worthy of a blue ribbon. Thanks, Lennie!

Easy and very good. I added the coconut for a great banana-coconut cream pie-good reviews from the lucky ones who got to sample it before I finished it off.

Made 1 yesterday. HUGE mistake... should have made 2!! We all devoured it and wanted seconds, but none to be had. Followed recipe exactly, except added a tad more flour to make sure it thickened properly, which it indeed did. When I added the beaten egg yolks (after mixing in a bit of the hot mixture) to the entire hot mixture, there seemed to be flecks of yellow in the "batter". Was concerned about this, but once it was refrigerated, they disappeared. Just like the entire pie, within minutes! Yum, yum. I am now in the process of making another one- just waiting for the pie crust (store bought) to cool. I top it with heavy whipping cream beaten with a bit of 10x sugar. Important to get the bowl and beaters chilled before beating your whipping cream. I am impatient, so throw them in the freezer for 5 minutes. Works perfectly every time! This banana cream pie recipe is superb. Reminds me of the banana creme pie of a famous local restaurant, Lucille and Otley's. Unfortunately it is gone, but so glad to be able to make a pie that's equal to theirs. Thanks so much! (Also, this pie is quite easy to make. The thickening process doesn't take a long time, but do be diligent about stirring.)

Great tasting pie!! And it's the first pie I have ever made!! Yes I cheated, I bought a premade pie crust....hehehe. I did change one thing though..., i mashed one large banana and added it to the custard mixture, just to add a little more flavour. I think it made quite a difference. I too topped it with Miss Annie's Weepless Meringue. Went great!!

What a super delicious pie Lennie! So many wonderful reviews and now I know why. I made two of these tonight for my guests for Sunday dinner, there was not a piece left and a few people even had seconds. I added in a small amount of banana extract to the cream mixture, after step nine.... I also covered it with a film of plastic wrap while cooling. My guests really enjoyed this pie, thanks for another keeper Lennie!...Kitten

Excellent! I paired this with Miss Annie’s Weepless Meringue, and it was a Huge hit at our house. DD loved it and told me at least twice how good it was. Easy to make, next time I’d like to try making the coconut cream pie, with toasted coconut on top of the meringue…mmm. This is a Definite Keeper, thank-you.

I have tried several recipes recently looking for the perfect banana cream combo. Well, I have found it! The filling is so creamy and lightly flavored so it doesn't overpower the bananas. After I chilled the pie, I slathered on a thin layer of cool whip and some grated chocolate for color. Warning to others, if you are making this pie for any more than 3 or 4 people, make 2. If you don't you will wish you did!

Not that this recipe NEEDS another review, but WOW for those who haven't tried it - YOU MUST! The directions are easy to follow, but most importantly, you'll be the STAR in the eyes of those who sample your efforts - it's THAT good. I prefer pastry crust with banana cream pie (as opposed to graham cracker) and real whipped cream (not Cool Whip), so that's how I made my pie and it was gone by the end of the day. Thank you Lennie for this recipe!
