51 Reviews of Mexican Hot Cocoa

I've made this several times and it is delicious! I add only 2 tbsp. sugar because the written amount is a little too sweet for my tastes and also have added cinnamon sticks as well. Thanks!

Wonderful! This is so rich and chocolately, even with skim milk. I omitted the cinnamon and used 3T Splenda. It was perfect. I'm sure I will be making this often in the winter. The kids loved it too!

My doctor has been trying to get me to up my calcium intake - not a problem any longer. So simple and absolutely delicious this make a great evening treat, or a brunch beverage, or a dessert. Heck, its good anytime. I made this using Splenda. If you do the same add it to the hot beverage at the end which results in a better flavor (less artificial) than adding it as you would at the start. On my second pot, I sprinkled a bit of chili powder in which was sublime - the slight spiciness made it less sweet but heighten the flavor of chocolate. Hmmmmmm. Thanks for the fabulous recipe.

I didn't use the cinnamon as I don't particularly care for it in cocoa. Having had cocoa in Mexico it wasn't a taste I preferred. However, I made the rest of the recipe as written. YUM! I like my cocoa a bit darker and stronger than those packaged mixes, and this fits the bill! Very, very good - no more packaged mix for me!

This is perfect! I thought I made this recipe up and I was thinking about posting it, but here I find it. It's totally awesome. You can even put a cinnamon stick in the hout chocolate and that adds great flavor too! The other addition I sometimes do is just a drop or two of peppermint if you want a holiday flavor!

I woke up today and it is soooo cold here I thought I am going to try lauralie41's hot cocoa, This cocoa is the best I have had. I couldn't believe how the cinnamon and vanilla just made it such a complete drink. I added whipcream and sprinkles and am hooked now. Lauralie41 I can't thank you enough for sharing this cocoa, I will be making this one over and over for the family. It is wonderful.. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could.. Thank you again. It's great!! faith58

Good stuff! I reduced the fat and eliminated the cholesterol by using Soy Milk. For those who don't really care for the taste of soy milk, the addition of the cinnamon masks the flavor.

Mmmm, this is delicious! I just came in from the bitter cold, and this warmed me up. It's so rich and chocolatey, without the clumps you sometimes get with hot cocoa. I've never had it with cinnamon. It added just a nice little touch. Thank you for a wonderful recipe, Lori.

Wow! This is now my favorite hot cocoa recipe! It's been a long time since I've had a drink like this and it really hit the bull's eye. If you have guests or just want to make it extra special you could top the cup with whipped cream, a sprinkle of cinnamon, and a drizzle of chocolate syrup or just the whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles. I've also found that it makes enough for 1 soup sized cup...which for me is enough to curl up with a book and sip on. Thank you so much for posting this recipe!
