7 Reviews of Mad Scientist Ice Cream in a Bag

5 stars because it tastes great! We made three kinds, the vanilla, chocolate (just added 1/4 tsp cocoa powder instead of the vanilla) and cinnamon (added with the vanilla). All three were yummy..although I think we all prefered the chocolate. Now, it took FOREVER to actually turn into icecream, for us way longer then 20 mins..more like 45 mins, and we had to add more ice and salt. I am wondering if we crushed our ice too much, as it melted pretty quickly. We ended up wrapping hand towels around the bags to help our hands (they were going numb from the cold) and that made it much easier. Thanks for sharing this recipe, it was a fun family activity!

I used half & half and it reminded us of Hagen Dazs! It was so yummy. My son couldn't believe he was making ice cream. Fun activity and takes a tad of patience- great thing for kids, and Mom's too! I think we'll use this as an activity at a birthday party coming up. I suppose instead of sugar you could also try a splash of strawberry or chocolate syrup? Delicious as is!

Made this with fresh full cream milk. It froze nicely and I had fun making. Taste-wise, I think I'd use half-and-half as the result was creamier than by just using milk.

This was great. I did it with the half and half with a room full of Tiger scouts (6 year olds) and it was so exciting when it started to get hard! After the meeting I came home and made some for myself for fun and it was so delicious. Thanks!
