There is no getting around the fact this is the ONLY way to eat bologna! We were not rich growing up and food was pretty simple. Since my pop is totally addicted (I kid you NOT) to bologna and tomato sammies in the summer when the tomatoes are in abundance, we always had bologna on hand. I have been known to skip the bread (and don't prefer cheese or mustard) and go straight for the heaven that is fried bologna. I'm just glad that others (all 23 of us) are not foodie snobs and will eat stuff like a bologna sammy. I've seen people snirl up their nose, but they've probably never tried it. GIVE IT A GO! even if it is just once. YUM..Thanks, Tina, for the memories of youth and reminding me there are people who enjoy the same Redneck delights I do!

Best meal I ever had in my life....fried bologna sandwiches, sliced cucumbers and tomatoes, sitting on the deck of a cottage on the shores of Lake Erie, summer of 1978. I don't know if it was the fresh air or the fact I was 7 months pregnant for my oldest daughter...but I still dream about those sandwiches. Like I said, the best meal I ever ate. Thanks for the memories. If I could get bologna over here I'd be at my stove right now trying to re-create a wonderful taste and memory!

What a wonderful memory of frying up bologna for a sandwich. Thank you for reminding me of this. I will have to make these for my kids.

I love these sandwiches.
I like to toast the bread, then butter the toast, and spread on Apple Jelly before adding the fried bologna and cheese. Wonderful as a breakfast sandwich.
Thanks for the recipe.

I have to have one of these every once in awhile for old times sake.
I live in NC and my neighborhood has a burger place (locally owned) that sells them. Not only that but my neighbor lady used to get them made "Carolina Style." I found out shortly after moving here that meant putting chili, slaw and onions on whatever you might be eating on bread.
I'll never be that southern, but when my neighbor decided to go for it she had them add bacon too! Disclaimer: for your own safety back away from the nitrates...

I can't believe I found a fried bologna sandwich on the site! This site will be my favorite as long as it is here!!!!!I love fried bologna sandwiches. I make mine with a hamburger bun, chili, and I use mustard and mayo mixed to give it a little pazzaz.Sometimes I use 2 slices of bologna.I am from SC but have lived in NC a very long time.

OH MY GOODNESS, fried bologna sandwiches. My DH grew up on fried bologna sandwiches. DH and his brother still talk about their Mom frying the bologna. It would have a HUMP in the midle then turn it over and the other side would be browned or BURNT in the middle, the edges were always burnt. My Dh said, what will your kids remenber about you??
They loved the sandwiches.

Ok this brings back memories. Made this for Pick A Chef 2005 seeing as I adopted my very own "mommie". I never realized a simple sandwich could be so good, course I love bologna so not hard to give this 5 stars.

A great family favorite of ours. Although, we make them a little different: no cheese, and we saute onions in butter then fry the bologna with them. We serve the bologna, onions, and mustard on white bread. There's nothing like this classic!
