53 Reviews of Soft, Chewy Sugar Cookies

From: Trennarene

Oh honey! You do NOT have enough ratings, This is by FAR the best recipe I have ever had for sugar cookies! With one batch I did the lemon extract, the other I did almond.. My mom LOVED both! My family has used the same recipe for 23 years and I don't think we will EVER replace this one! No one wanted to make the old ones! They were perfectly soft, chewy and had an awsome flavor. If you read this review, you have to try the recipe. It's a jem!

Excellent sugar cookie recipe! I made these for my son's class and they turned out so good! I watched them closely in the oven to make sure they didn't get overdone (7 minutes was perfect!) and was so pleased with the texture. I LOVE chewy sugar cookies. I frosted with a recipe from Family Fun magazine that was posted. Thanks!

Very good! Nice and chewy, and a big hit with my family! Only next time, I think I will take another reviewer's suggestions and change the lemon extract to an extra tsp of vanilla--just a personal preference. *A note for everyone, make sure you don't overbake these-if they are starting to turn a little golden around the edges but are still very soft (seems like they'll fall apart) that is the perfect time. As they cool, they will become chewy and less fall apartish. Thanks for the great recipe!

Awesome recipe! I was looking for a sugar cookie like you get at the mall-one with some substance and that you don't have to roll. this was perfect. i followed the instructions exactly and the cookies came out great. chewy and delicious!

These sugar cookies are the best sugar cookies I have ever made, Just like the title says, they are very soft and chewy! I used Frosting for Sugar Cookies for the icing and it was a match made in heaven!! This was a great addition on our xmas tray! Thank you very much for this keeper recipe Mom4life, I don't think I'll ever make another sugar cookie recipe again!

Totally soft and chewy! I left the dough in the fridge for about 5 days and it certainly didn't negatively affect anything! I also didn't use lemon extract, only 2 tsp vanilla. These are pure heaven and really don't need frosting! Thank you for sharing Mom4Life!

What a great sugar cookie recipe! Everytime I make sugar cookies, they cool and turn crunchy, and I hate it when that happens. This recipe of yours was so yummy, my whole family loved them and kids love them too. I followed the directions, but I needed to have cat shaped cookies, so when i flatened them with the glass, i used a knife to cut the top so ears were formed, and success, everyone at school loved them. I love chewy and soft sugar cookies, and this recipe Is what I will use for now on. Thanks!

YUMMMM! just made a batch of these for my daughters halloween school party. i used almond extract instead of lemon, wasn't in the mood for a lemon cookie. tried making candy corn shapes but the dough was very soft and didn't hold the shape in the oven. turned out kind of like blobby triangles. guess it's not the kind of dough to roll out cookies, maybe i should have followed the directions lol.. but the taste and texture of these cookies is fantastic! this is definitely a keeper and i'll be adding it to my xmas cookie tray almost forgot - i didn't have the time to put them in the fridge, not sure if that would have mattered. and no need for frosting, very yummy as they are!

These were amazing!!!! I cut the recipe in half (I always do that with new recipes) but I wish I hadn't! I used only 1 egg and a little extra sour cream. I didn't use any shortening, just 1/2 cup of butter. I like them thick, so they took 8-9 minutes to bake. They were soft and yummy. They look like store bought but taste home made. Thank you for this great recipe!
