Always loved sage. Used carefully and properly over time, it has many wonderful benefits, unimaginable to most non-Native people in the Far West. Over-used, or used improperly (if boiled for example), it is poisonous and causes toxic build-up in the liver that can lead to serious damage and painful, frightening symptoms such as muscular spasms that if ignored can lead to death. Properly used, sage heals the problems that it causes if used without proper understanding of this herb. Anyway, this recipe is a good one, and it is the way I prepare my Sage tea, except that I steep it for 3-5 minutes and DO NOT recommend that you steep it for longer, as after five minutes the toxic chemicals in ANY HERB always beging to steep out. That is why black or green tea, coffee (and anything else really) all have nasty effects when over-steeped.

The flavor in this was a little too boldly sage-y for me, although it did make me feel quite healthy. The lemon surprised me and really balanced well with the sage. I think this would be best with a blend of sage and another herb- it was a little overwhelming, although certainly drinkable.

This tea grew on me. I liked it more and more as I drank it and had to slow myself down so that I could enjoy every last bit! I used honey in mine. I'm so glad I have a huge pot of sage that I can now put to use

I'm sure it's good, just FYI, sage and other astringent herbs (like parsley) will dry up the milk of a lactating (breast feeding) mom. (I am one and would have tried this but knew of this issue). Everyone else enjoy!!

I like this tea in small amounts. It is refreshing, but powerful. It is very nice with the lemon, too. Thank you for posting this.

Wonderfully warming, the sage adds a peppery flavor which I enjoyed. I find most herb teas too bland for my tastes, so this was just perfect. Added honey, but no lemon. Thanks, Sharon, for sharing the recipe!

YES! This is wonderful! It's a delicious bedtime drink. The lemon and honey really add an extra dimension. I only steeped mine 3-5 minutes as longer steeping doesn't seem to makee the flavor stronger. I like it hot and letting it sit longer just lets it get cold. It's good plain OR with the lemon and honey. Very soothing. !

Oh my gosh, I cannot believe how good this is! I've been making tea with fresh sage, and I'm in love. I'm going to plant sage in my herb garden this summer, for sure! I have always loved the flavor of sage, because it makes me think of the holidays and family. I guess most of the sage recipes in my family were special dishes for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I like to sneak it into everyday dishes to make them special. In the tea, I noticed a wonderful minty flavor to it that I don't think I've ever appreaciated before. I'm on a diet, and calorie free uncaffeinated beverages help me get through the evening without snacking, and sage tea is just so satisfying. I keep meaning to try it with honey, but after I brew it and take a few sips I always decide it's just fine all by itself! Try it with purple sage if you have a chance! It produces a beautiful reddish-gold liquour.

This was earthy and soothing. I used fresh sage and enjoyed it plain. Freddy Cat says Merry Christmas and thanks for the drink! Made for the Holiday tag game.
