22 Reviews of Basic Kentucky Chocolate Walnut Pie

Made two of these day before yesterday.... turned out excellent! I used semi-sweet chocolate chips and made it with pecans. The pie crust I left frozen, piled the mixture in and baked it...worked great! I did use self rising flour and added 1 1/2 tablespoons of kentucky straight bourbon.. just the right amount I think. With the self rising flour you want to make sure to only fill the pie shell to about 1/4 to 1/8" below the top of the pie shell - also make sure to put some foil or a baking pan underneath it just in case. Delicious pie, and very close to original "name brand" ones I've ordered several times and paid a fortune for! Thanks so much for the recipe!

This pie is out of this world yummy! It's the real derby pie recipe. I put kentucky bourbon in it (about 4 tsp). I took it to a bbq and it was the hit of the night! Everyone loved it. Easy to prepare and delicious, too. What more could you ask for? denise b. In sc

Trust this Kentucky girl when I tell you this pie is YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY!!!! My mom has been making this since I was a kid and it's always been a favorite! Except we use pecans, gotta make it as Southern as possible! This pie is chewy, thick, and best served warm! Make this on the first Saturday in May and pretend it's the good ole days!

This is the greatest pie ever made. I will say that if you add a tablespoon of bourbon it really enhances this treat. I actually put two tsp. of vanilla in mine as well.

Just the one I was looking for. I've made it five times so far and it's wonderful. Add a little vanilla ice cream for the perfect treat.

This was one of the easiest pies I have ever made. It was delicious! My family loves them - I can't make them fast enough.

This recipe turns out perfectly everytime! I usually reduce the amount of nuts (for cost saving). Guests always ask for more and ask for the recipe!

Divine! I changed some things though - instead of 1 cup sugar, I used 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup brown sugar; and I toasted the walnuts first. I really love how the chocolate all sinks into the bottom and creates a nice fudgey layer! Thanks a lot for sharing!
