I made these this morning and they were great! The only thing that was bad (and that was my fault) was adding more raspberry preserves than suggested, thinking it would only be better. It turned out to be a little too much. Make sure to spread a thin layer of the preserves. A little goes a long way. Thanks Kittencal

These are absolutely delicious. I didn't have a box yellow cake, so subbed the dry ingredients from a yellow cake recipe (2c flour, 2tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp salt, 1 c sugar). I also added an extra tsp of vanilla to the wet ingredients, to make up the missing flavor from the box mix. I also subbed canola oil for the melted butter. Given all my substitutions, I held my breath — but they came out great! I used a strawberry-rhubarb preserve. I think I might try this next time with some homemade applesauce, cooked down to reduce a little more. I cut these up and wrapped individual bars in wax paper, froze them, and will be adding to lunchboxes. Thanks, Kitten!

I made these to take to work and just know everyone is going to go crazy. They are sooooo good. I had to break out my mixer to make the dough which did seem a little bit dry. Was tempted to alter a bit as that had me worried, but I didn't and the resulting cookie was just perfect. For the preserves, I used a combination of cherry preseves supplemented with raspberry and plum preserves. A divine combination prompted by necessity. 10/8 Update: Made these again by request. This time I used almond extract in lieu of vanilla and combined peach and raspberry preserves. The dough was a bit softer on this batch — guessing this was because I used oil instead of butter. Again the cookies were superb.

I just recently started using this web site and I LOVE it - and these bars were one of the first recepies I tried and they were SUPER! I was looking for lunch ideas and thought these would be nice. I added cherry preserves and also some cream cheese frosting - so good I only had a few left to put in the freezer after everybody munched on them! Thanks Kittencal!!!

This was SO easy and quick to make and the kids loved it. It's also so much more economical than the boxes of the commercial version. Next time, I will likely cut down on the sugar by a 1/4 cup - I doubt the kids will miss it. Thanks!

These were a hit even with my substitutions (out of necessity). I ran out of oats and added flax seed and graham cracker crumbs for the oat amount. They were good, but I can't wait to make them again-this time with all oats and maybe a different flavor of preserves. I also wonder if apple pie filling would work in these.

Wonderful bar cookie, made them following directions, then made more adding 1/2 cup each coconut and chopped walnuts and replacing raspberry perserves with apricot perserves.

I was looking for a recipe for nutri grain bars because my two little ones (2 and a half and 8 months) love them. My son still has no teeth so I love the fact that they are soft. The store bought ones have preservatives and are expensive so I was thrilled to find a recipe for making them at home!! The true thrill came when I served these today...YUM, YUM, YUM!! I am stubborn about fat/sugar/calories so I subbed 1/4 cup applesauce for the butter/oil but did use 2TBS. oil as suggested. They are excellent so I don't think anything was sacrificed in the oil ommission. I also nuked the strawberry preserves for 45 seconds prior to adding them, this made it super easy to spread them. These bars are so good forget sharing them with the kids!!

Oh my gosh..Kitten, these bars are the whip. I just love em. I used my home-made strawberry/rhubarb jam for the filling. The taste is sinful that I forget that they're good for you too
This recipe reminds me of a cobbler in that a scoop of ice-cream would also go perfectly if you chose to make this as a dessert.

These are just wonderful! I made them for my 2 year old that loooves nutragrain bars. I made a few changes to them that suited us better. I also didnt have any cake mix, so I used what a previous reviewer used instead. The flour, baking soda, salt, and sugar. Although I cut the sugar down to 1/2 cup. I also used 3/4 cup ground flax seed instead of the 1/4 cup melted butter. I did use the 2tbsp butter though. These were definitely sweet enough and I will absolutely be making these again instead of buying them. Thank you for the recipe! I have come to adore all of the recipes that you post!
