I used bacon instead of sausages, but otherwise followed it to a tee - inlcuding the insane-sounding amount of chili. It turned out really well, and not too hot at all, just a good kick. Guests loved it too the next day, I served it with wild rice, cornbread, guacamole and sour cream.

I loved the seasoning mix in this chili...it tasted just the way that chili should taste! I used arrowroot powder instead of masa harina and the chili thickened quite nicely. I also followed the advice of some people on here and made the chili one day, then the next morning I put it in the crockpot on LOW for the whole day and we ate it at dinner. I don't really think that it needed this step, though. I served this with a sprinkling of cilantro, jicama Jicama Texicana, and homemade tortilla chips made with low-carb tortillas. Great meal. Thanks so much for this recipe, it is a keeper.

I've been making Real Texas Chili all my life. (No beans or veggies for us!!) I had never put sausage in it and when I ran across this recipe, I happened to have a roll of Jimmy Dean's in my freezer. Gave it a try and man o man it was so good that I had to make another pot the next night at hubby's request. Excellent chili..thanks for the great recipe. Even an old dog can learn a new trick now and then. Try it with smoked paprika...sooo good!

I have made this recipe several times. We absolutely love it! And NO, I did not alter the chili powder amount. The amount the recipe calls for is right on the mark. Thanks for a great recipe!

This chili when I prepared it was a mild chili, so if you want more punch then you will need to add more heat. I added red pepper flakes to give it the amount of heat I liked. It was not difficult to make at all. I think I had it prepared within an hour and half total time.

Awesome Chili! I served it at a SuperBowl party and everyone loved it. Most people had 3-4 bowls. I increased the serving size to 18-22 and it still worked great, except for the salt amount. I had to slowly add more because the quantity the increased recipe called for did not give it enough flavor, and I'm a conservative salt user.

I was searching for a "real" chili recipe that my husband would like and I could live with on Weight Watchers. This is it! Great taste and by using 1/2 as much sausage it worked out great! Thanks!

Thanks Don! If you're looking for a good recipe for the way chili's cooked in Texas this is it. I needed to make a double batch. I used 3 lbs of coarse ground round and 1 lb of Owen's HOT Country Sausage. Followed the rest of the recipe except substituted beef broth for the water. Used a bit less than the 16oz. (32 for double batch) and I added one chopped jalapeno pepper. This is a HOT one, but that's the way we like it.
