I am a former McDonald's manager. This is pretty close, except that the onion flakes need to be prepared in cold water, lots of it, and set to soak up as much water as possible. Will take at least an hour. Then drain and you have crisp, white chopped onions that taste fresh. Also, McD's burgers are 1/10# each, and at least 10% fat.

I took Chef #240993 advice and soaked the dried onions in cold water for at least an hour. The other step that's important, and it may seem minor, is to brown the bun in a dry frying pan while squashing it flat. Also, the microwaving of the assembled burger is a must if you want to get the same effect as McDonald's. We're not big on ketchup so we left it off of the burger. My hubbie who isn't big on the "fast food type" of burger even commented how much it smelled like McDonald's. I was surprised how close it came to the real thing!!!

The dehydrated onion (dried onion flakes) is what MAKES this recipe! They do seem to plump up better in cold water for me. Good quality ground beef is also a must...because the first time I made these the hamburger meat was horrible...I'll never buy meat from "that Supercenter" again. Anyway, 80% lean seems to work perfect for us. My kids were just as happy with this as if I'd gone through the drive through and brought them home. Thanks for posting!

These were so good. I don't know how you would get a 1/10th pound patty to fry together unless it was previously frozen, so I used 1/8 like the recipe, which was thicker than McDonalds, but worked fine. While I was frying them I added a little bit of the cold water that the onions had soaked in to the pan, which made the house smell just like our favorite hamburger joint. I used just the standard plain white buns at Walmart. Built 6 burgers at a time on a plate, topped them off, gave them a good squish with the palm of my hand and let the cheese melt a little in the microwave. Then I took them out and put a bowl over the plate and let them "steam" a little before I served them. Great hit at dinner tonight!

I made around 40 of these for my kids and their friends. They all thought it tastd like the real deal. I do use real onions tho. Just diced very small. I wrapped the burgers in wax paper and nuke for 10 seconds.. We hardly ever eat fast food. But I thouht they came pretty close.

I made a "Big Mac" by mixing some Miracle whip a touch of ketchup, pinch or garlic powder and relish mixed into a "secret sauce".

WOW, this was so easy and my kids love these! I made mine on the George Foreman grill- 4 minutes and they were perfect. Thanks for a recipe the whole family enjoys!

Lol, these were wonderful!! If you want them just like McD's dont skip the 15 sec microwave step!! Excellent if homemade McD's is what you're looking for!

This was pretty close to the real deal. A great snack and so very easy to make. My kids loved them and we will definately make them again one weekend. If you REALLY need the cheeseburger fix this one should keep you happy! Thanks for posting.

This was really good, very close to the real thing. It satisfied my Mcdonald's craving and I used very lean meat and fat free cheese.
