This apple butter recipe is awesome. I just made my fourth batch of it since Christmas of 2004. I followed the recipe ingredients exactly, using approximately eight pounds of Granny Smith apples to fill my four quart crock pot as directed in the recipe. I cooked the apples on high for 10 hours, added the sugar and spices and cooked an additional four hours on low. All cooking was done with the lid on. The results were 5 1/4 pints of "to die for" apple butter. The sweetness is just right and the consistancy is moderately thick. It is wonderful slathered on toast, bagels, and english muffins. Thanks Brenda

I made this for my family and am so glad I did. It will definitly be a family recipe. Easy and fun. Makes the house smell great while it's cooking and is the best tasting apple butter I have ever had. Of course, that will vary with the quality of apples. But it was fun to make and although my 3 and 4 yr. old didn't appreciate it on bread they loved it as apple sauce.

So easy and tasty! We have two apple trees that are so full the boughs are about to crack and fall to the ground from weight, so I decided I would make some apple butter with this recipe. Instead of peeling or coring the apples, I cooked them on high for ten hours stirring every so often, then ran them through a sieve (which produced a very smooth texture free of skins and seeds). Instead of using 3 cups of white sugar and one brown, I just used two and a half cups of brown sugar, which also darkened the color to the more tradition deep brown.

Well, after 14 hours of cooking and worrying about it, it's finally done! The kids and I just finished eating this wonderful apple butter on bread. I used red wine vinegar because I wasn't sure what kind of vinegar you meant. I cut the first cooking time down to 10 hours because my crock is only 1 year old and very strong. It simmers on low. I accidently added 1 tsp nutmeg, and purposely added 1 tsp allspice, and the spices were perfect. The only thing I would do different is less sugar, probably by 1 cup. It was too sweet. But my family will enjoy this recipe forever. I'm very excited about it!

I was really suprised by how good this recipe turned out. I was also glad that there was hardly any work to make the apple butter. This is one of the best recipes for apple butter.

This was so easy to make! And overall tasted very good, however I'm in the process of making it again, and this time I plan to cut down the amount of sugar I add to it, because I thought the sweetness overpowered the apples a little bit.

This is my second year of using this recipe and I realized that I hadn't posted a review! 5 Stars for Easy, Delicious, and side benefit of the house smelling great while cooking! I actually gave this away to my mom's group gals last year in half-pints after a memorable Apple Orchard Field Trip. I added a pinch of nutmeg just because it smelled right. Used apple cider vinegar. Wonderful recipe, thanks!!!

My son in law gave me a big box of apples he picked,so I had to do some thing with them..They like apple butter,so I made this for them...Thank Goodness for my apple peeler.Cores, peels and slices in no time at all. Turned the crockpot on at 7;30pm on high , turned it to low when we went to bed at 10;30pm..I get up early every morning 5;30 am and gave it a stir and turned it to high till done at 9;30 am..I did use electric hand mixer to blend it smooth.I also added a half envelope of knox gelatin for thickener, turned out just like store bought....Canned 5 pint jars..Nice color, good flavor..
