199 Reviews of Baklava Salmon (Salmon With Honey, Butter, Walnuts, and Mustard)

From: Meredith in Missouri

On May 20, 2005

We have tried many fish recipes lately, trying to get more fish in our diets and this is our favorite so far. So easy and delicious. I substituted olive oil for butter because my husband has to watch his cholesterol. Try it!

a fantastic preparation for salmon that i will be using again. the most notable feature for us was the crustiness caused by the walnuts and breadcrumbs, which we loved. i combined fresh white breadcrumbs with walnut pieces in my mixie till i got a mealy texture, and the crumbs themselves tasted great so i knew how the dish would work out. i added just 2T of mustard and used 50% less fat light butter.

Are you a believer in Love At First Bite?? I wasn't but now I am! I am not a fan of fish, but I know that if cooked right (like Pecan Crusted Grouper from one of my fav restaurants) I eat it up. I have been on a mission to unravel only the best of the best recipes for fish - in order to incorporate it into my diet. And this one, so far, TOPS the list. For those of you non-believers out there, you need to try this one.... you surely will fall in love. I myself, used honey butter in stead of regular butter (and still added honey), and in addition to the bread crumbs I used wheat germ, for just a slight bit more additional nutrients. 1/8 cup Wheat Germ & 1/8 cup bread crumbs. Dijon mustard, Pecans and a Lemon were the rest of my choices. TigerJo, you should have kept this recipe a secret, but boy am I glad you didn't!

My husband said this was the BEST salmon he had ever tasted! I really liked it too and I usually don't care for fish. I also used the honey, mustard etc. topping over chicken and it was delicious as well. Thanks for a great recipe!

This recipe has such a high rating, that i refuse to bring it down. I had this last night...it was very good, very rich. But I don't think it is something that I care for as much as other people do. If you like sweetness with your salmon, this recipe is for you!

This was just fabulous! I used all of the ingredients except the lime/lemon at the end, but I did make changes to suit the size of the piece of salmon I had, and to make it a bit lighter in fat and calories: 12 oz piece cut in 3 servings, 2 T butter, 2 T grainy mustard, 1 T honey, 2 T dry bread crumbs, 2 T walnuts, 2 t dried parsley. I served with couscous made with chicken stock, dried basil, garlic, and onion, with tomatoes and balsamic vinegar served on top, as well as asparagus spears on the side. Thanks, TigerJo14, for such a great dish!

I'm not usually a fan of honey mustard, but this was exceptional!!!! I used Jack Daniels Dijon Mustard, panko, and walnuts. My DH punctuated each and every bite with "MMMM"

This was unbelieveably good! We just mixed everything the night before and placed it all in a foil packet with the salmon, and the next day I grilled it. Man. HEAVEN.

Oh man, this is SO GOOD! DH found this recipe and asked that I try it out and I am so glad I did. I did not have any honey like I thought but it was amazing without. I almost can't imagine it with the honey and will probably not even try it in the future. And yes I will be making this many times in the future. Thanks so much for posting this awesome recipe! Salmon should never be done any other way

We tried to grill salmon before but usually turned out rather tough. However, the butter and honey really preserve the tenderness of the fish. Sometimes I used bought chopped mixed nuts, dried herbs like sage, rosemary instead. They all turned out very nice. There are 2 tips I think it may be useful. I lay the fish with skin facing down so the scales become quite crispy afterwards. Besides, I mix the salt and pepper in the butter, mustard and honey mixture so the fish pieces can be seasoned more evenly. Salmon fillet can be quite expensive, so we often use trimmings which is a fraction of the price. Unfortunately, after buying the trimmings a number of times, the owner knows there is the market and has increased the price a bit. 8-(
