I lived in Mexico for 16 years and there are times when I grow a little nostalgic for the food. This is a wonderful recipe, I am so thankful that you posted it. My husband was not sure what to think of it when he saw the soup, but I told him to trust me and thankfully he did not regret it. I will definately share this with my family and friends. Awesome!!!A+++

I needed to replicate what a friend called "bondigas" soup. I used this recipe and he said "that's it"! Thank you! I used my own meatball recipe as I had just made some. They were cooked, but that did not change the time I simmered them. Worked beautifully.

RuizA, this is one of the best soups I've ever had. Yum! I used ground turkey for the beef, but otherwise more or less followed the recipe. I browned the meatballs before adding them to the soup, and I threw in the cilantro right before serving so it would still be bright green and flavorful. My husband and I loved this soup. I'll surely make it again, probably when I have visitors in a few weeks. Thanks so much for posting this!

Chica this was awesome. I have the authentic recipe and did it took forever and still didn't have the taste this one does. My husband is from Mexico so it is very hard to please him if it doesn't take a long time to make he isn't pleased with the results. But this he loved and didn't take that long at all. Next time I will put jalepenos for him but, this dish was great for whole family. Very pleased with it and is a keeper.

I made this soup for lunch today and what a hit! The only thing I think I will do next time is fry the meatballs a bit before adding to the soup so that they stay together a little better. Other than that, the soup was perfect. Thank you for a great post RuizA!

This soup is really good!! The chorizo made it really flavorful. Even my picky 5 yr old liked it. (well... he ate the meatballs but not the veggies) And its great for my boyfriend whos watching his carbs. Thanks for this delicious recipe. Ill definately be making it again.

I am fortunate enough to eat this regularly. It is amazing, every bit as good as Mama Ruiz's. Definitely My favorite soup.

I followed this to the letter, and I can honestly say I would not change or substitute a thing! This was such a perfect soup for a cold New England night- both hearty & easy on the stomache. I only had cumin seeds, so while I was chopping away, my husband ground the seeds to a fine powder. The cumin really shone through, and I may just have him do this again next time since I loved the freshness of it. A+

This is the easiest and best-tasting soup I've ever tried. There's just enough spicyness from the sausage, yet not too much. I didn't add as much cumin as called for (about 1/2 tsp. for the meatballs and none in the soup.) I served a bit of rice in the soup at serving time. Since I didn't have cilantro I used Italian Parsley. Everything was fabulous!
