86 Reviews of Mom's Chocolate Cupcakes

From: Chef #206977

Thank you for this excellent and efficient eggless recipe! It perfectly fit the bill for a chocolatey snack for the kids from a bare cupboard. My magician status is safe! I will conjure this again and again.

My daughter has multiple food allergies, including milk, eggs, and chocolate, but she wanted chocolate cupcakes. What a wonderful find to come across this recipe! I substituted carob for the cocoa, and it even fooled the neighbor children. Everyone loved them! Thank you!

This was the easiest recipe and made great cupcakes. A previous post said they weren't very chocolately, so I used Ghiradeli ($4.79 - the most expensive kind at my local grocer) cocoa powder rather than Nestle ($2.29) and maybe that helped. They seemed plenty chocolately to me. I took them to a bridal shower and my friends raved about them. I filled them with Wilton's Pastry Cream filling which is kind of like vanilla pudding and topped them with Williams-Sanoma buttercream frosting. Most people who tried them at the shower even had 2 of them!

I could've wished for the chocolate flavor to be just a little richer, but the cupcakes still tasted pretty good. This recipe is the easiest. Thing. Ever. Never again will I use a mix, not when there's something this good and this easy available! (Personally, I used cherry frosting. Mmmmmm.)

Just heavenly!! I only had about 1/4 cup of cocoa powder but didn't change anything. Wow is this great!! I even went ahead and filled the cupcakes over 3/4 full and they didn't overflow, came out really nice. Very moist. This will be my go-to recipe for chocolate cupcakes from now on! Thanks for sharing!

What a fantastic recipe! And I had everything on hand already. Wonderful flavor, moist, and so very easy. Frosted with kittencal's recipe for buttercream frosting, these met with rave reviews. Thanks so much.

WONDERFUL! Made these for my son's b'day this year and they were a big hit! This recipe reminds me of a cake my Mom used to make me for my birthday every year when I was a kid and these cupcakes were equally terrific. This came together in about 5 mins and took about 17 mins to bake - couldn't be easier! This isn't super chocolately so it's great for kids or if you use a super rich frosting (vanilla buttercream Vanilla Buttercream Frosting (From Sprinkles Cupcakes)) like I did. These were very moist and still moist on the 2nd and 3rd day (I hid some to enjoy later). Will definitely make again - thanks!

These cupcakes are awesome! They are so moist and ridiculously simple to make. The one modification I made was to set the serving size to 12 (I only had one muffin pan). Recipezaar did the calculations. The only thing you need to know for this smaller size is that 2 T equals 1/8 cup.

My nine year old daughter made this for the family on Valentines's Day. We didn't frost them, just ate them plain. They were wonderful and easy to make.
