This is a "must have" around my house in the cooler months(November to January). We love the scent of oranges and lemons simmered together with the spices. Truly a pleasure to smell a whiff of these in the air

This natural blend is a great scent not only for the holiday season but year around. Fills the house with the wonderful aroma of home baking. Putting the ingredients in a decorative jar for gift giving is an excellent idea. Love the photo!

I really liked the concept of this and wanted to give my in-laws a jar of "christmas." I saw this recipe on Christmas day so I had my husband go to the market to buy me some ground cloves, an orange, and a lemon. When I finished making it and had it simmering, all I could smell was the cloves...well, I could smell some of the cinnamon but the cloves dominated the smell. I think it might have been because I forgot to put the bay leaves in! I put it in a jar and took some over to my in-laws...again, all we could smell was the cloves. Since I like this idea so much, I'll probably make it again (without as much cloves) next year, and the year after, and the year after that, because I want my son to grow up recognizing this scent as THE Christmas day scent!

I LOVED this! I used it at my annual Christmas party this year. It really smelled so wonderful!! I used it a few days after also and noticed that it started to smell different. I couldn’t quite put my finger on what it was and asked DH if he knew what the smell was and he said “Yeah, I added”….whatever he added. I told him next time to trust me that this doesn’t need sprucing up with a bunch of other stuff, just add water every now and then and it will be fine…grrrr… Anyway, this is really nice and every night I would put it into the refrigerator and take it back out the next day to use. If it hadn’t been altered I think it would have lasted at least 7-10 days no problem!!! Just don’t forget to keep adding water to the stovetop!

This stuff smells wonderful! A very easy way to make the house smell great, and it's pretty simmering on the stove to boot! Thanks so much for posting your recipe

Great stuff! We are trying to sell our house and I always have this simmering when potential buyers arrive. Everyone comments on how wonderful it smells!

The idea to give this as a gift is wonderful--I make almost this same simmering potpourri--but I use cranberry juice instead of water.

Im definetly am going to try this recipe i thought maybe excluding the lemon and orange slices because they spoil faster and maybe trying dried lemon and orange ring instead,i use a electric potpourri burner i'll let you know how it turns out Lucretia Mcalpine
