Great recipe.. Is a keeper.. I made some..and wrapped them in aluminum foil just like the york. They are very cute in my candy dish.. I did not roll them out and cut them. I rolled them in balls and flattened them in my palm and put them on the pan.. easy...

These taste great, as good if not better than York Peppermint Patties. Even the dipping was easy. I poured boiling water in a glass bowl that a shallow plastic bowl would fit in. I then pour the melted chocolate from the double boiler into plaastic bowl. Worked great. Thanks for the wonderful recipe.

Can I give this 10 stars?!! I am not even a huge fan of peppermint flavor and I thought these were outstanding! I used low-fat sweetened condensed milk and melted 14 oz. of Ghiradelli's 60% dark chocolate chips in the microwave. I made made some changes based on comments from other reviewers. I omitted the shortening completely, formed the patties into balls and flattened them onto a parchment paper lined sheetpan then froze them overnight. After I covered them with chocolate, I again froze them on the parchment paper lined sheetpan! They were creamy and refreshing and I've already been told I have to make these (at the very least) for every special occasion to come! Thanks!!

whoa... there are incredibly good, and taste just like yorks (with better chocolate). they are also really fun to make! i used the bottle-cap method to cut them out, and it created perfect sized patties. i had to make sure to put a lot of powdered sugar underneath the "dough" because otherwise they would stick. at first i wanted to cut out little christmas trees but i think the dough was a little too soft and i eventually gave that up. for dipping, i did add the shortening and i think others are right... it should be omitted next time. the chocolate just did not solidify until i refrigerated them. make sure you use a quality chocolate on these! they are really impressive and make a LOT. my batch was way over 50... who knows? i ate a few...

Yummy! I substituted spearmint for the peppermint and they were very good. Added a little bit of food coloring for a colorful surprise in the middle. I put them in my gift baskets for Christmas. Makes a great inexpensive gift.

I love these mints. They were very easy to make and tasted great. I did change the recipe slightly by adding 1 1/2 T cocoa and 1 tsp of vanilla, so I could have chocolate mint patties. I also used the microwave to melt the chocolate chips. Like one of the other reviewers, I rolled the dough into balls. Everyone who has tried them has really enjoyed them.

The Best! I plan on adding this to Christmas baskets this year! I didn't have any semi-sweet chips, so I used milk chocolate chips and they still turned out delicious! I only let them dry out 1 hour per side and they turned out perfect! Thanks so much for posting! :o)

ok, im only giving this 3 stars because I liked it, but personally thought thaere was too much peppermint extract in them... however, i made them to bring to a christmas party, and almost the whole tray went! no one could believe i had made them, and everyone wanted the recipe. so i guess its just a matter of tastes.
great recipe, thanks for sharing!

These were great! Took me awhile to finish because they made so many (at least 90) but it was easy and well worth it! Very popular at the party I served them at. Only thing I didn't like was how dry the insides were. Id rather have it more moist and soft. So next time I'll probably not dry them out as much. I had no trouble dipping them at all and they ended up perfectly round. I rolled the sugar mixture with a rolling pin and cut circles with a small cookie cutter. I also think that less shortening should be used so the chocolate doesn't get so greasy and is more hard. =) YUM!

My DD was looking for something to make and I had everything in the house to make a half batch of this recipe. We used Sweetened Condensed Milk for the condensed milk and a leftover chocolate easter bunny melted in the oven at 150 degrees for the chocolate. She did have some trouble getting it to roll out properly, but it was quite warm in the kitchen so that may have been the reason, so she just rolled it into balls which flattened out as they dried. We all really enjoyed this treat and I think I may have to make these for christmas too. thanks for posting.
