Quick, Easy Oatmeal Bars With Chocolate Topping Recipe #197135

I grew up eating these. This is a recipe originally from an old Nestle cookbook that my mom adapted to suit us.

SERVES 20 , 20 Bars

  1. Combine butter, brown sugar, and vanilla and beat until creamy.
  2. Beat in the eggs.
  3. Add the flour and oatmeal.
  4. Spread in a greased 9x13 pan.
  5. Bake at 350F for 20 minutes.
  6. Cool slightly.
  7. Combine chocolate chips and shortening and melt in a double boiler or carefully in a saucepan.
  8. Spread over baked mixture.
  9. Sprinkle with chopped nuts.
