This is from my family favorite Aunt Peggy. The cookbook is called The American Woman's Cook Book dated 1943. There are some really great recipes in here to help stretch the budget dollar.

SERVES 6 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

    Soak crumbs in milk. Beat egg yolks; add 1/4 cup of the sugar and salt and add to the milk mixture. Pour into greased baking dish, set in pan of hot water and bake in 350º oven for 1 hour or until firm. Spread a thick layer of jelly over top.

    Beat egg white with remaining 1/4 cup sugar until stiff. Spread meringue over top of pudding. Bake 10 minutes longer or until browned.

    Serve hot or cold.
