This is basically just a potatoe pie Posting for the ZWT 5 Australia/ New zealand From a website with New Zealand recipes

SERVES 4 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

    Peel potatoes and cut into 1/2 inch slices.
  2. 2
    Arrange in an 8 inch greased casserole dish.
  3. 3
    Sprinkle the onion and garlic over the potatoes in layers with the salt, butter and thyme.
  4. 4
    Pour melted butter over the top.
  5. 5
    Bake in a moderate oven 180 deg C for 1 hour.

These are really, really good. I used vidalia onions and russet potatoes. I will reduce the amount of butter next time, but that is the only change I would make. Thanks wicked cook....terrific recipe. Made for the Auzzie/NZ Recipe Swap #29.

    I followed this recipe as written, and it was very easy to make, and turned out perfectly. I served it as a side to our main meal.

    Simple to make with ingredients that I always have on hand. Pukekohe is the Maori word for mahogany and, also, is a community in NZ. Just had to look up that word. Thanks wicked cook 46 for posting. Made for Chow Hounds for ZWT5.
