Orange Biscuits

These yummy biscuits are a great breakfast treat!

SERVES 4 , 8 -10 biscuits (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter (or margarine)
  • 1 teaspoon finely shredded orange peel
  • 1/3 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup milk

Topping

  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons sugar

Directions

  1. 1
    Combine flour, baking powder, 2 teaspoons sugar, and salt in a mixing bowl.
  2. 2
    Cut in butter until the mixture is crumbly. Make a well in the center and add orange peel, orange juice, and milk. Stir until dough just clings together.

    Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead 10-12 strokes. Roll or pat dough to 1/2" thickness. Cut with a 2-1/2" biscuit cutter.

    Put biscuits onto a greased baking sheet. Brush tops with orange juice and sprinkle with sugar.

    Bake at 450 degrees for 12-15 minutes.

Loof - these turned out quite well and are pretty simple to prepare. I'm really impressed with the orange flavoring and the brushing of the tops with the juice and then some sugar just makes it a special treat! I used a bit of extra orange zest to decorate the tops too - finely chopped - just to add a bit of pizzazz! My friends and I reallly enjoyed them as a morning treat! Made during the Sweet Traditions tag event.
