I was surprised to see that no one had posted this already. Just about everything Paula Deen does is so darn good. I have made this several times for my banana pudding loving step-father. Since he is an aficionado, I took it as a ringing endorsement that this was a real winner. The cream cheese and the Chess Men cookies give it an extra special twist. I did deviate from Paula's original recipe as posted below. I put half the pudding mixture over the first layer of cookies and banana, then added an extra layer of banana, put the second half of the mixture on top and only then topped off with the remaining cookies.

SERVES 12 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Line the bottom of a 13x9x2-inch dish with 1 bag of cookies and layer bananas on top.
  2. 2
In a bowl, combine the milk and pudding mix and blend well using a hand held electric mixer. Using another bowl, combine the cream cheese and condensed milk together and mix until smooth. Fold the whipped topping into the cream cheese mixture. Add the cream cheese mixture to the pudding mixture and stir until well blended. Pour the mixture over the cookies and bananas and cover with the remaining cookies. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

I make this all the time and just noticed that I had never reviewed it. As someone said, it's to die for. Sometimes when I want to kick it up a notch, I add a few fresh raspberries or blackberries to the banana layer. Other than this, I make the recipe exactly as written. Great banana pudding. Not for those counting calories though! LOL

I do not care for Banna Puddin", but this is to die for. I used it in one of my cooking classes after seeing it on Paula Deen's show, and I think it is all over Mississippi now! People can;t get enough and all want the recipe.

This is by far THEE best banana pudding recipe I have ever eaten and when I take this to functions, it goes quickly and it is asked repeatedly for me to make for work pitch-ins. Sometimes I want to make something different!!!! But, I know it is enjoyed and especially good. You will not be disappointed! Try it!
