  • Hot Apple Cider

A special drink to start the day on an optomistic note. I used a powdered apple juice drink in place of the cider and used dried orange and lemon peel.

  • Tropical Sunrise Porridge (Oatmeal)

All of the items in this recipe come from my food store except the walnuts, as these do not keep well. I have substituted toasted almonds. Bring the water to a boil on your camp stove and add all of the other ingredients along with ! T powdered milk. Simmer gently 2 minutes.

  • Gorp My Way!

GORP stands for "Good Old Raisins and Peanuts" but often that is just the beginning. All of the ingredients in this excellent version are storable.

  • Ground Beef and Sauce --- 3 Ingredients

This is similar to Sloppy Joe filling and so is a familiar and comforting meal. I used 1 cup of beef TVP (texturized vegetable protien) and 1/4 cup dehydrated onion. I also threw in 1/4 cup of dried diced carrot. (Shhh, don't tell the kids.) I rehydrated the dry foods with water, mixed in the soup and heated it all on the streno stove.

  • As Good As Mashed Potatoes but Fat Free

To convert this recipe I used 6 servings of instant mashed potatoes, 2 T dried parsley, and 1 T sour cream powder. All of the other seasonings remain the same. Make the potatoes according to the package directions adding all of the seasonings to the water before stirring in the potatoes.

  • Awesome Green Beans

To adapt this recipe use reconstituted chopped onion sauteed in 2 t. oil, add the green beans and vinegar and 2 to 3 T. real bacon bits, bac-os or bacon flavored TVP.

  • Poor Man's Tuna Casserole

Another comfort food. Use canned or reconstituted dehydrated peas. Canned or powdered cheese can be used or the cheese omitted.

  • Easy Seafood Bisque

Make this warming soup from your food store by using canned seafood (shrimp, clams, crab, oysters, etc) for the 1 lb seafood and replacing the heavy cream and half and half with 2 cans of evaporated milk plus enough reconstituted powdered milk to equal 5 cups.

  • No Bake Granola Balls

The easiest way to adapt this recipe is to use packaged granola in place of the oats. Or you can toast the oats and coconut in a dry pan over the heat, stirring constantly.
