  • Crock Pot Sauerkraut Supper

Set this to cooking whilst you prepare the other dishes! The aroma has a cleansing effect (sinuses will loosen, eyeballs will be sanitized, lungs will fill robustly!). Not to meantion the salutory effects upon the bowels! Eat up!!

  • Fleisch Perisky ( Meat Buns)

We peasants love our meat-buns, so grab an extra one to put in the apron pocket to have tomorrow for lunch. You can never have too many meat buns around!

  • Maureen's Chicken Schnitzel-Lite

Yes, with all the other heavy foods, we need something LITE to keep us from porking up!

  • Kartoffelpuffer (Potato Pancakes)

Fueled by the notion that potato pancakes increase a man's virility, many young women in Saxony, Germany, have saved their marriages from becoming ho-hum after the shine wears off of the honey-moon. So, pass the pancakes, please! We like ours with a shake of salt, dear hubby likes his with HONEY...and the leiblings like theirs with ketchup. We're a very eclectic family of peasants.

  • Spaetzle

Do make a batch of this for your next pot of chicken soup (skip the ordinary egg noodles). You can also add to a pan full of kielbasa or other sausages with sauteed onions. Yes, it's like dying and going straight to Himmel! MMM...

  • Speckkartoffel (Potatoes With Bacon)

I love anything with bacon so please be heavy-handed and throw in a few extra slices! As peasants we do a lot of walking and haven't yet heard of that nasty cholestrol, so have a second helping!

  • Apfelklosse (German Apple Cake)

Better make two or three of these for the next big family gathering, 'cause when us peasnats get together we like nothing better than to eat a slice (or several) of this ancient dessert. Serve with a glass of milk to wash down the delicious flavors!

  • Stewed Rhubarb ( Rhabarberkompott )

Ach du lieber! Don't tell me you don't have a little space behind the hut to plant some rhubarb. And you can always use the leaves to mulch the paths--just don't let the little ones play with the leaves as they are poisonous (oxalic acid). Jah, but that rhubarb will bring a smile to your loved ones' faces when they smell this stuff cookin'. Make a big batch, Lothar and his woodwoorking buddies will be here any minute and you know how them guys like their rhurbarb!

  • Bier, Beer, Burp!

Would it be a German wedding without the beer? Without the beer there would be no wedding dance (have you seen a sober German dance?)!!! I come from a long line of Germans who have NO aptitude for dancing until the beer/bier awakens their inner dancer, and then suddenly we see them waltzing, polka-ing and schotishzing all over the place. Yes, have lots of beer. Just don't drive. Dance yes, drive no!
