  • Strawberry Punch (Erdbeerbowle)

This might have been too sophisticated for the wedding feast, but they would have made something similar, that's for sure!

  • A barrel of mead

Naturally ... maybe more than one barrel! Mead is traditionally made from honey.

Someone made a long journey and came back with three barrels of French wine on an oxwagon, just for this wedding.

  • Crock Pot Sauerbraten

Oh, cooks marinated and slaved over hot stoves to make this dish the old-fashioned way: in black iron pots hung above open fires.

  • Chive Spatzel

This is also in honour of the sad German guest. One cook knew how to make this and did not realise it's actually a Swiss dish. It will be enjoyed hugely.

  • Belgian Carrots

Vegetables do not play a large part yet in everyday cuisine. The carrots served are a special treat at this wedding.

  • Moosbeerpascherln (Blueberry Blini)

Well, again, maybe not our modern blinis, but large peasant pancakes with available berries. A delight to the guests.

  • Fruits

Large platters of fruit, garnered from all over Belgum and further afield, will be served on silver platters. Desserts and cakes and such are not yet known.

  • Cheeses

With the fruit, plates of heaped cheeses made by the locals are also places upon the tables. The mead still flows ...
