" Many years ago I was on a holiday in Alicnte Spain and found this delightfull tavern called the "Alicante Taberna". Their speciality was a mile long Tapas bar. You sat on stools right in front of the tabernaro and watched as he dispensed drinks and tapas. Some were ready and others he had to prepare. We ordered casually after we finished one and wanted something else. All the while sipping on excellent Spanish wine. There were hot & cold tapas and the final course were the best roasted almonds I have ever tasted. The recipes in this menu are very similar to what we had that day. One that is missing is a fried liver dish - it was heavenly! Added note: I just had an zmail from someone currently living in Spain and he reminded me that Tapas used to be free - you simply bought a lager (beer) and that intitled you to the free tapas - but alas no more now, in most places they charge. At the Alicant Taberna in 1962 they did charge but it was something like .75 cents Canadian and the array was fantastic"
