about me

I'm a stay-at-home mom and wife in the "breadbasket" of the US (the Midwest). After moving in with my now husband, I watched Food Network day and night to learn to cook for us. I love playing hostess and entertaining family and friends. Sometimes I feel like a misplaced Southerner, because I appreciate Southern hospitality, the love that goes into cooking, and the beauty of the South itself. Of course, my cooking is not limited to Southern cuisine. I love cuisines that are healthy with big flavor, like Italian, Greek, Spanish, and Provencal.

I also enjoy writing about food and would like to write/edit recipes and cookbooks someday. But for now, I'm staying at home with my toddler son and loving every minute of this precious time.

Favorite Foods:

Its hard to pick favorite foods, because I tend to go for waves of time where I'll eat a lot of one cuisine and then give it up entirely. I always love classic American comfort foods - BBQ, burgers, fried chicken, biscuits, casseroles - the stuff you always want to eat but probably shouldn't. But I always try to eat a balanced diet with lots of healthy foods, as well.

Some of my favorite things are dark chocolate, real butter, nuts, cheese of all kinds (even the stinky ones), mayonnaise, peanut butter, coconut, maple syrup... I could go on forever. The foods I like least are things that are gelatinous or slimy, like jello, tofu, and canned mushrooms. I'm sad to say I also do not like kalamata olives, even though they seem to appear in so many delicious-sounding recipes.
