about me

ocean girl planted in the desert for the last 7 years, cook, pet-sitter, traveler, avid reader with somewhere over 1,000 books and more coming in fast, much to my hubby's dismay -
myrtle the shar-pei, bobolino and pogo the cats share my life too, and occasionally get treats fresh from the oven.
ONE of my biggest pet peeves is people calling a sandwich "panini": in italian, panino simply means sandwich of any type, hot or cold -
1 sandwich = 1 panino
about 1970 the big new fad was toasted PANINI [plural] at our local bar or "paninoteca" - the trendy name for the place selling them back then. so if you eat panini it means you are eating several sandwiches so you must have a big appetite or you're eating tiny little ones, and not necessarily grilled nor hot!!
AARRRRGH!

Favorite Foods:

although born in the USA of american stock i grew up in italy, so i'm very 'mediterranean' ; i started cooking with my mom @ 4yrs. old, she made fantastic bread and hosted incredible dinner parties for ambassadors and suchlike people back in the 50s, & my dad made the best fried green tomatoes ever. i've traveled to quite a lot of countries, & enjoy a variety of cuisines - but don't like 'southwestern' where to me it's all chiles, heat and no real taste nothing like authentic mexican food.
my 'polpettine al limone' are a fave, also 'scaloppine al marsala' which i make with chicken because i gave up veal 23 yrs. ago, and of course my "bobbielynn's best chicken" - hubby calls me the queen of soups 'cuz i can turn anything into soup
yep, i can pretty much make a meal out of whatever's in the fridge or cupboards — hey, someone's gotta do the bragging but don't ask for home-made pie: i have hot hands & the pastry doesn't like that! one of the few exceptions is "crostata al limone e pinoli" a pine nut & lemon tart i make that requires very little hands-on
