I've been cooking and baking for my family since I was about twelve years old. Now that I have a family of my own, I want to make sure my kids have a much bigger head start than that, so we spend a lot of our weekends cooking together. Cooking together is a great way to learn/teach math, nutrition, patience, and ingenuity. Throw on a great cd - Marilyn Manson or Ella Fitzgerald - and you've got quality family time. What could be better?
Our house is famous for soups from scratch. Avegolemeno is my specialty, but we're also known for Hot & Sour, Black Bean, Carrot-Fennel, and West African Peanut Chicken soups. I am a notorious tightwad, and don't make dishes from ingredients that aren't in season! Keep what's in season at the forefront of your mind when planning your meals - they'll be tons cheaper and a whole lot tastier, too!
