I graduated from the University of North Alabama (ROAR LIONS!) in 2006, and my husband and I love the Shoals. We've also lived in Huntsville which is a wonderful place, and we were born and raised in Bham. I became more domestic after I got married (as usually happens), but I have always had a love for cooking. Being raised on good food will make you that way - my mother is one of those people who can throw something together and it tastes great and both of my grandmothers had a wonderful repertoire of dishes. My hope is that one day, with years of experience like they have, my food will be a comfort to my family as theirs always was.
fresh veggies and anything that's quick and easy!
I love southern cooking - being an Alabama girl, there are a few things to learn as a right of passage: how to cook grits, how to cook cornbread, how to make good fried green tomatoes (which require buttermilk), and how to make sweet tea. We're all thick in the south for good reason ![]()
I also love making candies like my grandmother always made around Christmas - replicating her recipes is something I strive to do, finding every little nuance that could threaten the final product. The most important thing about candies that my Nana taught me was CHECK THE HUMIDITY. Perhaps one of the things that makes those candies so wonderful is the fact that they're so tricky.
