I joined Recipezaar, because guess why - I can't cook!! I look for recipes often on the "magic box" and I haven't found a site yet to compare with the 'Zaar. Everyone seems to get along like a family here and I feel comfortable trying everyone's unique recipes and looking for tips on how to do the actual cooking thing. I am trying to learn from you all. I don't have that bone or gland in my body that helps decide what flavor is missing from a dish. I usually have a question mark over my head when preparing my meals.
I don't think there is anything I don't like to eat except maybe salt. Chili is my all time favorite food. I like it because it is one of those dishes you can put anything in 'cept the kitchen sink. As long as you have my two FAVORITE ingredients cumin and chili powder, it's chili! I love anything hot and spicy. I buy my Tobasco sauce by the gallon...
I also love vegetables and trying to grow them in my 2.5 month growing season (kidding!). Vegetables are a beautiful gift. Other favorites include cilantro (which I hate to love or love to hate); my new friend chipotle pepper; tomatoes; everything in the Allium family-have you tried ramps?; newly discovered bison is the best tasting meat I have ever had, TRY IT if you haven't yet; and any kind of corn chip except Fritos and Doritos...I love corn chips and am looking for a recipe to make my own!!!!
I love cookbooks, especially Joy of Cooking from every decade. Currently I seek the elusive 1953 printing to match my 1950's retro pink kitchen of which I am very proud!! I will try to include some photos along with Mary Hartman Mary Hartman. If I can ever get one day when the WHOLE kitchen is clean...
