about me

I am running in the St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend on December 5, 2009 and I am committed to raising AT LEAST $1,000 for the children of St. Jude! I would like to blow this amount out of the water! I will be running on TEAM ANDREW, but in honor of a small boy named Colton who has touched many hearts on Zaar. For more information on St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to make a donation to support and sponsor me as I run to make a difference, please visit:

***BELIEVE IN MIRACLES***

I was born in Louisianna and raised in Memphis, TN. I learned to cook mostly from my mother and grandmother. I love to bake anything I can. From pies to cookies to cakes, it doesn't matter I love the process and the outcome! Every person who has tried my key-lime pie swears it is the best they have ever had!

I love to read, and I have a B.A. in English Literature from CU Boulder. I read cookbooks like novels.

On June 13, 2009 I married my fabulous husband, Chris, and I love to cook for him! Nothing makes me happier than his commentary "I'm fat, dumb and happy!" after a meal! This means he really liked it!We like to pick new recipies to try, make some adjustments and make it our "own"!

We have five children of the furry - four legged variety. Two minature schanuzers named Maggie and Peyton, two German Boxer dogs name Rocky Top and Princess Reily and one DSH kitty named MJ (Mollie Jinx). They are all spoiled and have no clue they are not humans — which is our fault and the way we like it. They are the lights and loves of my life. They complete me!

A little about my babies:

My handsome Rocky Top (in my icon) is 70lbs of the sweestest, slurpiest kisses and snuggles. He is pure muscle and the only thing he uses it for is to play with his sisters. He and Reily are best friends and littermates. The longest they have EVER been apart is the time it took to spay Reily and her recovery. Which was about 4.5 hours. Rocky is also a blood donor for his favorite animal hospital with the best Doctors ever!

My beautiful Maggie Mae is six years old. We were meant for each other. She picked me out. She is a snuggle bug and loves to sit in laps and get belly rubs. She also sleeps with her head on the pillow next to mine. I would be utterly lost without her in my life.

My Princess Reily is the smartest dog you will ever meet. She was the runt of her litter but according to our private (no puppy mills here, people) breeder she always grunted her way to the top of the puppy pile. She can open doors and weasel her way into anything. She pretends to be tough stuff but when it comes cuddle time, watch out — she will ever so slowly make her way into your lap! We picked her and Rocky out when they were 3.5 days old.

My little Miss Sassy Pants, Peyton is 13lbs of pure trouble, packaged up with the cutest face you have ever seen. She is just two years old and still has a lot of puppy in her! I was fortunate enough to know her doggie mom, Addie, and Addie's human mom very well! We worked at an animal hospital together and we shared our love of schnauzers! Because of this, I was there the morning Addie went into labor and Peyton was born. That little face was mine from the very first moment.

MJ is our lone kitty and a major trouble-maker! She likes to chase the dogs around and then get mad at them when they chase her back. We have to be very careful to not leave any plastic bags out — as this is her favorite place to sleep. 2nd best she likes to sleep in boxes. She is nuts! But we love her!

My pet peeves are those who are unkind and careless in this community (obviously rude reviews, just give it a low rating and say it was not to your taste and why; you don't need to be scathing or sarcastic) and in everyday "real life" and those who are cruel or simply thoughtless towards animals or who after the newness wears off, cast them aside like day old bread. In my former job I saw too much of this and breaks my heart.

Favorite Foods:

Most anything my grandma makes! She is the most amazing cook! I am a southern belle so I love anything fried and good ole' down home comfort food!I could eat a huge carton of cottage cheese every day and I eat hummus with a spoin! I also love authentic mexican as well as tex-mex and Italian foods!!! Yum!

I do NOT like: scrambled eggs, most RAW tomatoes (I like EVERY other version), egg whites, carrots (eh-ok raw, but I can't stand them cooked) or squash. I don't care much for plain chocolate ice cream or chocolate cake with chocolate icing.
